I am not sure if it will be as much as $100 million. Maybe more like $75 million. I was going to be happy with $30-40 million going into the offseason, so anything above that is gravy. That is, unless it is spent so foolishly that it keeps them from spending the next time there is a need.

Yeah, the "$100 million" is just an estimate based on where the payroll is currently, versus how much it would increase by to match other payrolls in similarly-sized markets. It's a nice round number the media gets to run with. I also don't expect it go up by that much; anywhere from $50-75m would be my guess (or hope, to be more accurate).

Would anyone be in favor of a two year deal for Nick Martinez? Say, 2 years and $7-8 million AAV?

I am still in favor of giving the vast majority of the starter innings to our young guys, but I have resigned myself to the idea that the front office has in mind to sign at least 2 starting pitchers. Based on his results in Japan this year, I would be okay with signing Martinez.

Depends
If his velocity is really up like reported and he has a good out pitch then yeah for sure. I would sign him at $7 a year if he looks like a stud

I'm not against the idea. I think the Rangers are going to bring in at least one starter, an innings eater type dude. The Rangers will need a guy like that. Nick would be just as good as any of them. I'm going to assume you've considered him possibly turning into Colby Lewis 2.0, which would be great.

Maybe even better than regular season Colby. His ERA this year was about 1.3 runs better than what Colby put up in his last year in Japan.

Of course, not many match postseason Colby.

Martinez is perfect fit. We had starters last year that could not make it through 5. This taxes the pen.

Would be interesting to track the number of innings our young starters are able to handle. Given their track record. Allard should be the long guy

This is what I think can be reasonably expected from our young atarting pitchers, as far as number of innings in 2022.

Dunning 145
Allard 140
Hearn 125
Otto 140
Alexy 115
Latz 120
Burke 110
Winn 110
Henriquez 120
Rodriguez 105

This is what I estimated a few weeks ago.

Who would y’all be ok with parting with to acquire Bryan Reynolds?
What do you think it would require?
I wouldn’t mind trading from our top 4-30
Just not the top 3.
I would be ok with Foscue, Huff, Smith and Otto.
I would then look to trade IKF plus for more prospects who are 2 years away from having to be added to the 40 man and who show some promise.

I would love to have one of the top 5 players in MLB for 4 years. And a true legit center fielder. That would be awesome.
I think Huff, Foscue, Smith and Otto could all be replaced through this years draft and a trade of IKF+.
Also if they plan on spending big there will not be as much of a need for those players due to roster space.

Trading for him would be counterintuitive to rebuilding right now. The cost to get him would be ridiculous, especially since you point out we'd just be replacing who we trade for him with 2022 draftees and spending big on FA's. I'd rather just add to our talent pool.

I'm not against the idea of trading as part of the rebuild, but within reason. Pirates would land a haul for Reynolds, rightfully so. Let some other team do that.

I wouldn’t do it all cost.
If they wanted Jung, Winn, Carter and Foscue I would say no.

But if it was Foscue, Huff, Otto and Smith I’m all for it.

Would you do it for the prospects I listed above?

Probably too soon to trade away prospects in middle of rebuilding. If he was a finishing piece but still cost is high and don’t want to get in a bidding war

I wouldn't make the trade under any circumstances. PIT would ask for a kings ransom. There's no way Foscue, Huff, Otto, and Smith are enough for the trade, and that's already too expensive for me by far.

I don't think this statement is anywhere close to being accurate. There have been periods where we didn't get that many talented players, on their talent level, in three drafts.

Then make sure there is enough money in the budget left to go after him in free agency in 4 years.

I believe a few guys will step up this next season and be higher up on our list come end of 2022.
Cameron Cauley, Aaron Zavala, Blain Crim, Acuna, Dustin Harris, Morrobel, Hauver, Efrenyer Navarez, Marcus Smith, Keyber Rodriguez, Cristian Inoa, Thomas Saggese, Mason Englert and Gavin Collyer.
Not to mention our first 3 draft picks this coming up year.

Well this year our 1st pick will definitely replace one of them.(Foscue) Have to believe at-least one other pick throughout the entire 2022 draft would replace one other. Possibly pick 3-5
But could be a 7th rounder like Sam Huff. Or any other round.

As far as replacing the other 2… IKF + others could possibly replace one of them.

And for the 4th..
I bet we already have a pitcher in our system who could replace Otto, and I believe we have players in our system who could replace the others as well.

Then make sure there is enough money in the budget left to go after him in free agency in 4 years.

I would rather have him in his prime while he’s trying hard to get that Mega contract. Not after lol

personally I'd rather stockpile talent and have it all sorted out later. I don't want to send a boatload of prospects away hoping that they'll be replaced by others. Because it will take a massive amount to get Reynolds here. Way more than you've proposed.

If it cost way more than I proposed then I agree.
Wouldn’t want any part of trading Jung, Winn or Leiter. Wouldn’t make any sense.
