I just don't get what they are stuck on this time. Is it just where the luxury tax begins?

MLB general managers not yet concerned about potential labor stoppage delaying 2022 season

"It’s virtually impossible to find anyone who really believes the 2022 season will be delayed, let alone the postponement of a single regular-season game, but no one knows what the new rules will look like in the next deal.

Will the luxury tax remain at $210 million, or possibly be lowered to $180 million? Will there be draft pick compensation for teams losing free agents? Will every player be eligible for free agency when they turn 29 years old? Will the current salary arbitration system still exist? Will the playoff field be expanded from 10 teams to 14 teams? Will teams be required to have a minimum $100 million payroll?"

There looks to be some easy compromising that could be done to get the deal done.

Heyman listed 13 teams in the SS market yesterday. Since then I have read where 5 of those teams are probably not interested in the top 3 SS. I also really doubt the Twins or the Rockies would spend that kind of money. That pretty much leaves the two LA teams, the two Texas teams, the Yankees and the Tigers. With the Astros offering no more than the did for Correa, you would think they aren't serious contenders.

With the Angels looking to significantly improve their rotation you have to wonder if they will be willing to spend $25-30 million AAV for a SS.

my understanding is that the strongest suitors for Correa are NYY and DET, Seager - NYY and LAD, Story - TEX and HOU.

I don't think LAA is a strong suitor for any of those 3, or really any of the SS. Semien seems the most likely for them, but not a strong chance.

Adam isn't too fond of the idea of signing Chris Taylor.

"And I think that there’s a good chance that, in retrospect, Taylor will end up being one of the worst deals, from the signing team’s standpoint, of this offseason."

Listened to Diamond pod re Rangers. They think we are signing pitchers.
I do think we need one maybe 2 if one is a one year contract. Big thing is they think Winn needs the full year of AAA development.

They seem a bit pessimistic and think a guy like Kershaw is more about marketing which I get

Is Chris Taylor someone the Rangers would bother targeting?

I agree with them about Stroman being the best longer term pitcher.

Elegy for 2021: Recapping the AL West, Team by Team

The Big Question
Unfortunately, the biggest question for the Rangers — just how long a full-scale rebuild would have to be — was one that could not possibly have been answered in 2021. Their attempted quick retool to coincide with the opening of the new stadium failed miserably, resulting in the need to start from scratch. And with the cupboard nearly empty of major league talent and a farm system that was still only middle of the pack, Texas’ goal in 2021 was simply to remain moderately interesting for the fans as the front office addressed some serious long-term problems.

How It Went
Texas assembled a reasonably competent bullpen, but one made up of journeymen and veterans rather than the farm paying out dividends. Neither Jordan Lyles nor Mike Foltynewicz showed enough life to fetch a return in a trade this summer, but Texas was able to turn Kyle Gibson into Spencer Howard once the Phillies grew desperate for pitching. Adolis García filled the fun side of the equation by hitting 31 homers and driving in 90 runs, but he’s already older than Joey Gallo, rather one-dimensional, and more likely to fill Renato Núñez’s role with the Orioles a few years ago rather than be someone who is one the roster three or four years from now. Nathaniel Lowe showed life at times, but not so much that he’s obviously the long-term answer at first base. Willie Calhoun still hasn’t shown he can actually hit in the majors, and Nick Solak remained as inconsistent as he was in 2020.

What’s Next?
The biggest concern about the Rangers — and the same one that has hindered Baltimore’s rebuild — is how few answers they got about their young hitting. No position players on the major league roster took the type of step forward to make you say, “OK, now that is a franchise guy.” Outside of Josh Jung, Yohel Pozo, and Justin Foscue, there are scant few hitters in the system I feel better about now than I did in March. That doesn’t mean the rebuild is a failure, but it means that the Rangers still are very, very early in that sorting-out process; little so far has stuck to the wall. At this point, Texas needs to hoard young talent like it was premium toilet paper in March 2020 and hope for the best.
