Marcus Semien signs with Toronto. anyone think that Oakland might be interested in Elvis if we throw in some cash. i've heard one trade proposal where we sent Elvis and $10M and we got Tyler Baum RHP, Marcos Brito 2B/SS and Colin Peluse RHP

He is pretty much untradeable because his option year vests if he is traded.

Jamey Newberg has released his next installment of the Rangers top 72 prospects. He lists 33 through 52 today. The most intriguing names to me are SP Tyler Phillips at 35 and 2B-SS Yonny Hernandez at 42.

no one is untradeable with the right package
Technically, you are right. There is always the possibility we could do what the Angels did when they practically gave him to us. Realistically, he is much more untradeable than Odor, due to that option year.

Also, he can veto any trade with his 5 and 10 rights. So we would not only have to pay about $30 million or more toward his salary, but we would have to pay him several million to accept a trade.

Elvis should make a very good, albeit expensive, bench player for the next couple of years.

At this point I would tell Elvis he needs to focus on bulking up and hitting with a little more authority. Don’t worry about stealing bases. Bump up the OBP and SLG % and he may make a decent 3B.

They probably need him to be able to backup at 2B, SS, and 3B.

If we trade Elvis, then his option vests and he will be owed a total of $43.5 million. Of that, we would most likely have to pay about $30 million. He would have to be paid to waive his no trade clause and that might take another $2 million. We would probably be out $32 million. Then we would have to pay someone about $5 million over two years to take his roster spot. We would be out a total of around $37 million altogether. If we simply keep him as a utility player we would be out $29 million.

The player I failed to mention that the Angels practically gave us was Josh Hamilton.

I have no problem with Elvis starting at 3B if he can hit .265/.340/.400 with 15 homeruns 30 doubles and decent defense.. not a bad hold over till Jung is ready. We’re already paying Elvis millions..

If they were going to do that then why not just leave him at SS and IKF at 3B?

I think it is a stretch to think that Elvis can put up those type of numbers any longer.

Agree. Elvis is another example of a great player who declined faster than his contract. Not uncommon. Odor is another who was never a
great player rather a great mistake. Never the less, he like others played out before their contracts and became bench players etc.

gra

than his contract. This

No Rangers made the top 10 SS prospects list by MLB Pipeline. Maybe next year, that will be different as Acosta or Seise could turn some heads this season.
