If they were going to do that then why not just leave him at SS and IKF at 3B?

I think it is a stretch to think that Elvis can put up those type of numbers any longer.
Ikf is better defensively
It also sends a wake up call to Andrus
Might as well try IKF at SS this year rather than next year.
I understand being down on Elvis but I have a feeling he will have a solid year this go round.

I would much rather see Lowe at 3B and Guzman at 1B in 2021. Elvis is not in our future. We need to see if Guzman is.

Elvis is a part time player. They surely don't want the third year to vest

I too have suggested Lowe at 3B a couple weeks ago so Guzman can have another shot

I still think that Elvis can be traded and that he would accept it if it means playing time. He is not going to like the idea of sitting on the bench

Even if it is cheaper for us to keep him?

Yep, and he would probably be a part time player on the team we traded him too also, that is, if we lost our minds and traded him.

So pay him $24M for the next 2 seasons to sit on the bench. Why would it be cheaper to keep him?
Because you are going to pay more than that for him over the next three years to the other team. Then you are going to have to give him money to accept the trade. Then you are going to have to pay a utility player to take his place here for two years.

so if we keep him we pay him $28M for part-time play and basically full-time bench over 2 years or we trade him and cash(around $6-7M a season) and get 2 or 3 prospects back plus an open roster spot. they may not be quality return but one of a number of roster ready prospects has a spot now. the Oaklans proposed trade would get us Baum, Brito & Pelusi

Looks like we have gotten into another mess with no easy out. Tough decision to make.

The problem with your scenario is that the other team needed for the trade knows the position the Rangers are in. It seems pretty ridiculous to think there's a team out there that would want to trade for Elvis at this point. Sure, the Rangers could "make it worth their while," but seems like it would be easier for literally everyone involved to not even bother.

I agree but Elvis is not going to be happy sitting and out of respect for what he’s been to this team we should give him the option to move and I think he takes it

We don’t have to do anything but that scenario there aren’t many choices left for Oakland and their nearest prospect is at least 2 years away

We disagree on how much cash we would have to give up. In fact, if Oakland is the team then my original estimate of what we would have to pay of his salary was probably low. Oakland is as cheap as they come. Going there would probably cost us more in his no trade buyout as well. No one wants to play there.

No one is going to give up good prospects for a backup infielder and no one is going to want to be on the hook for much of his salary.

If Elvis wants to tear up his contract and have us release them that would be fine, but he doesn't want to start that bad and his union wouldn't let him.

We are stuck with a very expensive, but good bench player, for 2 years.

With an injury or two he may get 250 AB each year here.

As hard as it would be for us to trade Odor, I think I could see that happening a lot easier than us being able to trade Elvis.

We must really look silly as an organization for having Elvis and Odor as bench player.

It will look a lot less silly than if we let them continue to start though.
