As of now, it appears that Elvis is destined to be our backup at 2B/3B/SS. I would imagine Culbertson is signed just in case something happens to that plan, something like an injury to IKF or a trade involving Elvis.

I see what is happening in San Diego coming from a bottom dweller to where they are now much like what happened with the Rangers when AJ was here helping JD. When Machado signed with them I thought why would he sign with a team going nowhere.

because Machado believed what Preller was selling and this proves that what he was selling was gospel. right now if JD told a FA that tomorrow is Wednesday they would doubt it was true

Especially when owner outright said we are rebuilding. Give credit to SD farm system and Preller gave up no top prospects. Lynn trade for Rangers got more than Cubs got on paper

Preller has built a quality farm system and a major league team something the Rangers, JD and its owners can not say or claim

Well the JD era at GM is over. He produced 2WS appearances and give credit to his guys which have since moved on who helped him get there. Any accomplishments going forward will have CY stamp on it even if some consider this current year one of tutelage.

We shall see if Levine and Preller reach greater heights going solo now. Being a huge Yu fan I am hoping for a WS championship for him this year as he is now on the wrong side of 30.

In retrospect, once we lost Yu, I wish we would have taken on an aggressive rebuild. I still believe the new ballpark was a factor in not going that route

Well Preller surely rebounded from his first aggressive blunder and did well to get 2SP.
Hopefully the Ranger farm is truly on the rise since the days of being considered the best farm in MLB
But BTW that did not win them a championship despite being agressive with their assets

nope i haven't forgotten but being aggressive with their assets and making smart moves are 2 different things in the case of JD and the Rangers. in Preller's case he learned from his gaffes while JD continues to follow one with another and another

My reason for actually posting this is this can't help but make person wonder how much influence AJ had while here since we are seeing the same similarities from the Rangers back about 10 years ago. Strong farm system and good acquisitions. Or is it that he took what he learned during that time and applied it in SD?

seriously doubt it. if we sign or trade for a 3rd baseman it will be a cheap low-level player

Are you referring to Ron Washington who almost won mgr of the year and beloved by fans here minus a portion of the SportsHoopla base?
