Rangers looking into acquiring Dominic Smith and Jed Lowrie. Like who cares but the last sentence is all I copied from MLB Trade Rumors.
"If Lowrie was able to recapture anything close to his 2017-18 form, he’d represent a good third base answer if the Rangers weren’t able to sign Josh Donaldson." Haha! What's the chance of us not being able to sign Donaldson? He is a sure fire bet to be here. Why, we are probably pursuing him like crazy. Not!

They won't spend the money to get him, so dont worry about that. As I have said before Solak is probably our option at 3rd
Heard that they are going hard after maikal franco as our 3rd baseman

The off season is being extended for the next 162 games. (sarcasm)

Solak, Franco, Lowrie could all be options at 3B at this point... The Rangers Way, hoping to catch lightning in a bottle on the cheap
It can happen. Has before.

Solak is in house so why not see what he can offer at 3rd. Odor is likely not moving so Solak can use the bat and if he can play 3rd then lighting in the bottle will strike. Trying to stay positive.

No doubt, just hoping they would do things not on the cheap for once, it actually made sense to go after Rendon

What bothers me is that for once, we weren't outbid or they didn't want to play in the heat, they genuinely didn't even make a good faith effort

Money is greater than championships to some.

Once again they played the fans by saying they were going to be active and then offering below market numbers to the players they're linked to. They knew days ago that Rendon and Boras were looking for a 7 year deal and they continued to hang with their 5 year offer because they never intended on signing Rendon

I realize I'm probably alone on this hill, but $35m/year for 7 years is an overpay for Rendon, and would have hated for the Rangers to pull the trigger on that. The only way that move makes sense is if the Rangers are a piece or two away from seriously contending, and they are nowhere near that.

Here is a prime example of a JD apologist trying to make people look silly for being upset at management. He fails miserably in his effort though.

I don't know that Evan is playing the part of a JD apologist as much as he is grasping for straws trying to keep all interest in the Rangers from drying up. His livelihood depends on our interest as fans.

Avoid the best free agents and fail to develop top shelf talent. Now that is a recipe for failure.

Get ready for a summer or two of trading away top prospects to try to obtain Fool's Gold.

don't think they will do that either. maybe i'm wrong but I don't believe the ownership team or JD has any plan for doing anything. they will sign a couple tier 4 or 5 FA's and announce they have had a successful off-season and feel the team will be competitive in 2020 (for the 4th or 5th spot in the West)

I think they covet that second WC slot, and will eventually be overcome by that desire and make some foolish trades.

don't agree that they covet that second WC slot, I think they only covet a profit and could care less how the team performs

But Rendon to the Angels — for seven years and $245 million?

OK, now it’s time for the head-scratching portion of Scott Boras’ winter-meetings deal-a-palooza.

When I asked folks from other teams Wednesday night what they thought of the move, here’s the word they used repeatedly:

Pressure.

The Angels are a team and a front office feeling intense pressure – not just to win, but to do something big

As one NL executive put it, it feels a little too much “like they were making a big move whether it was the best thing for their club or

The cost-of-living index for CA 136 vs 90 for TX. And they have a state income tax of 12% vs TX 0.

So if the Rangers offered about $200 mil for 6 years, our offer is actually better than the Angels.
