Nope it comes down to the team never really ever being interested in signing Rendon or any other top tier FA. But they had make the fanbase think they were in it

It’s the same shit. Different year.

the last few trade deadlines we expected lots of movement and got nothing.

they literally are in a bind and have no clue on how to get out of it. The Astros rebuild has their heads spinning. The rest of MLB is trying to copy their tanking model. Nobody wants to trade prospects at a time when we are trying to acquire prospects.

we pretty much sat out the last 2 winter meetings. They were very slow with not much activity. I’m guessing the rangers assumed that the winter meetings this year would be slow and rendon would accept a deal on the cheap.

the rangers turned tail and ran when other teams started throwing out big money.

Yeah, I’ve been following this. Wish jd would just shut up and make a big splash instead of announcing big deals possible and jumping in and this happens. And to the angels of all teams. Sure they are smiling now.

As soon as they lost out on Gerrit Cole they jumped on this quick. Just goes to show you if they had given what they asked it would have been done days ago. But we don't know what lies down the road and if we are able to make good acquisitions for the same amount of money or if this turns into a bad nightmare. But the thing that gets me is that if they were not going more than 5 then they should have switched gears days ago.

And like I said if they did have a plan B they would have switched gears as soon as they realized that 7 years was going to be what it took to sign Rendon.

Tomorrow we will hear JD say "well we made what we thought was a good offer and it just wasn't enough so we will be signing Franco and Forstyhe which we think makes our team ok"

I am irritated but not so much about not getting Rendon but about not going in a different direction once 5 years was unacceptable which I have now mentioned for the millionth time. But before I pass judgment I want to see what the results are once the dust settles this off season.
