I can't imagine a Texas HC search in the summertime will end up well...any coach worth their salt will be deeply entrenched with their own program's prep work by that point.

Timing is the issue. You won't be able to get a big-time name who is currently coaching at that point in the year. You'd either have to accept a lower-tier candidate, or go the interim route.

Texas is a very attractive job, but the search will yield far more candidates if done Dec. - Feb.

If that's truly the case. Mack won't survive.

The right thing for him to do is retire at the end of the season and give the school time to find a new HC before spring ball.

Shouldn't be too much trouble for Dodds with blank checks to throw around.

It would also let Brown go out saving face. He deserves that. He got them a NC.

It appears that won't happen though considering Mack plans to stay through 2020.
