Agreed.....but Texas will still be able to pull a major name or two. The question is whether or not the names are who they want.

I guess it depends on who you think is a "major name". My feeling is that you REALLY don't want to miss on the most important coach in your AD. It may be worthwhile to sacrifice a year of "transition" to make sure you get it done the right way, and land the best person for your program. Ohio State is the model of how this can work for you.

Ooh well. Coaching change won't magically make those players learn how to tackle.

I hope you like the Bobby Petrino types.

I figure that Booby Petrino would fit better at USC. I could see USC boosters having a bunch of blondes deliver new Harley-Davidsons to him as a signing bonus. That image doesn't quite make it with Texas.

A big part of the problem is the scheme.

They run nickle nearly all game......yet the moron didn't put a spy on the QB that was torching them, and instead kept running fire blitzes. Diaz had no feel for the game, or basic concepts. He also doesn't teach gap integrity. They'll improve just by doing the BASICS well, as they don't right now. How MUCH they improve will depend on the coaching and talent.

Management 101. Set expectations. If someone can't meet the expectations then fire their ass.

Maybe the players need to learn from someone else?

I'm impressed that Mack can operate an iPad.

I agree, but Petrino is the kind of guy that would leave a team in late summer. Isn't that what Texas fan is saying will happen?

I can't imagine a guy with higher character quality leaving a program late summer.

I've seen it happen before. However, I wouldn't think it would happen for Robinson.

Definitely not a Robinson fan, but I guess we'll see what the old man can do

The tweet didn't say he operated the iPad, only that he watched the video on the iPad. He has an assistant that operates it for him. :laugh3:

Thinking the same.

I'd have a hottie that was my "iPad Operating Coordinator"

If Texas calls, most coaches will answer - don't kid yourself. Of course, this assumes he isn't fired before then.

Completely agree.

Let's pretend you are a coach and here is the call.

"Hi, this is the University of Texas."

"We have more money than anyone else, you will make more money than anyone else. Our last coach made $5,000,000 plus. Name your price, but it must be over $5,000,000 and more than Nick Saban is paid."

"We have more five star recruits in our state than any other state and they call you first, you don't have to recruit."

"Our BMDs will make your life and your wife's life and your childrens' lives a complete fantasy."

"You have five minutes to say yes."

The only coach that would say no to that is Nick Saban, but he actually might think about it. Nick really, really likes money.

This is great news.
Greg Robinson sucks.
There's a reason he's unemployed.

His last year (2010) as the Michigan DC, he surrendered 458 pts.
I love this announcement.

This is good news.

Mack doesn't get a free pass, but Diaz has been horrible for almost 2 years.

He puts guys in the wrong spots. Call ridiculously complicated stunts and shifts.

Texas has bigger, faster, stronger guys than most teams.

I don't understand the need to get so fancy.

Texas finished 1st or 2nd in Big 12 defense (or thereabouts) for the first 14 seasons under Mack.

Now suddenly with Diaz, they are at the bottom of the Big 12 in defense for the last 2 seasons.

Diaz should have been fired in October of 2012......

Mack will probably lose his job for being too loyal to this dude.
