I understand firings in mid-season, or in this case early season, in the pros but I don't see it as a good thing at the college level. They've had only 4-6 weeks with the coach and now have to start over basically if the new coach changes things drastically. Doesn't seem prudent.

I've explained this to you a million times. Geez man, pay attention.

The AD's contract is up this summer. He's going to retire. The NEW AD will hire his own coaches. But a short timer at AD is not going to go through the hassle of finding a new coach.

Understand this? Get it?

So if I understand you correctly, the current AD will remain until summer 2014, at which point a new AD will be hired. If this is the case, you'd have to think Brown will still be coaching until winter 2014, right?

Or are you saying this current summer is his last?

Well, Texas has gone from a micro-singularity to black hole stage. The more top ten recruiting classes this black hole consumes, the quicker it will become supermassive.

I think that AD should just fire coach Mack

This is common sense. NO AD is going to take over and retain the coaches, he's going to put his stamp on the program and hire his own guys.

The new AD will take over in the summer of 2014.....but no doubt they'll have a list of candidates at the ready. Mack won't be here without Deloss Dodds, that's a guarantee. Dodds is the ONLY power player that wants Mack here.

Do you remember what happened the following year? We were near the top of the rankings and lost eight games. It is no fun having a bad coach.

I wouldn't know. Never had a team where our fan's expectations are sky high every year outside of the last 3.

In those years we had Kelly.

But yeah, I am a Raider fan as well. So I know a lil bout bad coaches.

There are so many schools nervous right now, Texas is throwing around coordinator money like it's going out of style.

Greg Robinson, the ex-DC, will be taking over, according to reports in Austin

About time. Worst defenses in school history.

550 rushing yards vs BYU :omg::omg:

You make a lot of guarantees that don't pan out. I'm betting brown stays till he doesn't want to be there any more.

I'm ready to tell Heupel he's only allowed to coach Qb's from now on.

I think Mack knows he's out the door. He can't afford another loss this year.

If they get blown out to say OU/OSU/Baylor/TCU, and ALL of those are possibilities, there's no saving anybody here.

Which is a shame, because I like Akina, and Major. Both are FANTASTIC recruiters that know Texas, and Akina is arguably the best DB coach in the nation. I'd hate to lose them.

I can't imagine a Texas HC search in the summertime will end up well...any coach worth their salt will be deeply entrenched with their own program's prep work by that point.

Assuming he is let go in the summertime, the most plausible scenario would seem to be a interim HC (ala Arkansas/Ohio St) until a replacement is found at the end of the season.
