Reported in Houston Chronicle first:

Houston Chronicle reporter Brent Zwerneman reported that both Texas and Oklahoma have reached out to the SEC to inquiry about joining the league. Zwerneman also said that a source indicates an “announcement could come within a couple of weeks concerning the potential addition of UT and OU to the league,” which would make the SEC the first 16-team conference in college football.

Would def need to be a geographic re-alignment of the divisions. It would be a blockbuster move from hell.

There isn't a chance in hell the SEC lets Texas in with that Longhorn Network still intact. Is ESPN going to buy it out?

Good question. Considering the contract is good till 2031, but ESPN also owns the SEC network, so it could possibly just merge the two.

I guess Texas will have to get use to being bottom dwellers with A&M.
Given my druthers, I'd def go with a matchup against the 'horns year-over-year. But yeah, moving to the SEC West would mean a long period of futility for them.

This would be huge. I would also screw over the leftover teams in OK and TX.

Not sure how the contract language is worded but I almost have to believe there would need to be some form of "compensation" to Texas for that. And it isn't like the WWL is just rolling in the bucks right now.

Texas University doesn't fit the SEC culture they fit more with the Pac12 or else be an independent.

You know if OU and t.u. join they would have to share their money with all the other members are they ready for that?

it would not be the offseason without some reporter claiming inside knowledge that "Texas or Oklahoma" is moving somewhere.
Every single offseason it happens.

Zero sourcing on the record + denial by every single AD = 10K more twitter followers for the reporter who broke the story
Repeat again in 2022,2023,2024

These stories will always pop up like clockwork in late July and August.
Texas has played parts of the last 10 years in the PAC-16, PAC-14, ACC, Big 16, Big 10+4, independent, and now apparently the SEC.
We will get the obligatory follow up stories about UCF, BYU, Cincinnati, Boise, and/or Memphis in talks to join the Big 12.

There is literally zero downsides for a reporter to generate extra clicks and twitter followers by posting crap like this every year.
And if the Broken clock is right just one time, that reporter will be an insufferable asshat.

I see what you're saying, and it might be silly off-season stuff. But this from the Houston Chronicle, not Longhorn McGee at a 'horns fan site.
