There is no right or wrong answer :

Kobe:
- 5× NBA Champion (2000, 2001, 2002, 2009, 2010)
- 2× NBA Finals MVP (20092010)
- NBA Most Valuable Player (2008)
- 14× NBA All-Star (1998, 20002012)
- 2× NBA scoring champion (20062007)
- 9× All-NBA First Team (20022004, 20062011)
- 2× All-NBA Second Team (20002001)
- 2× All-NBA Third Team (1999, 2005)
- 9× All-Defensive First Team (2000, 20032004, 20062011) - about 2 or 3 of these are unwarranted, though
- 2× All-Defensive Second Team (20012002)
- NBA All-Rookie Second Team (1997)
- 4× NBA All-Star Game MVP (2002, 2007, 2009, 2011)
- NBA Slam Dunk Contest champion (1997)
- played with two potential HOFers (Pau, Shaq)
- coached by the GOAT
- apart of 3 60 win seasons
- missed the playoffs once
- apart of 8 WCFs

Duncan:
- 4 championships (1999, 2003, 2005, 2007)
- 3× NBA Finals MVP (1999, 2003, 2005)
- 2× NBA Most Valuable Player (20022003)
- NBA Rookie of the Year (1998)
- 13× NBA All-Star (1998, 20002011)
- 9× All-NBA First Team (19982005, 2007)
- 3× All-NBA Second Team (2006, 20082009)
- All-NBA Third Team (2010)
- 8× All-Defensive First Team (19992003, 2005, 20072008)
- 5× All-Defensive Second Team (1998, 2004, 2006, 20092010)
- NBA All-Rookie First Team (1998)
- NBA All-Star Game MVP (2000)
- played with one current HOFer (Robinson), 2 potential HOFers (Parker, Manu)
- coached by one of the top five NBA coaches ever
- apart of 3 60-win seasons
- never missed the playoffs
- apart of 6 WCFs

When you put it like that it looks much closer than it did. Intangibles aren't included though.

Yes, in a season where teams played almost every night and your whole style revolves around athleticism and running. The lockout totally didn't benefit you guys.

This argument is flawed. Every team went through the same situation and you can more accurately argue that with a shorter bench and their stars playing more minutes that would actually hinder their athletic edge.

Kobe vs Duncan?

LOL...I think the experts did this at the end of the decade in 2010...Kobe was the overwhelming vote of player of the decade. Duncan was 2nd by a long shot...

Try google...I think I'll trust all the Experts and Espn hoop writers over the Sportshoopla Kobe haters...

Historically Kobe is considered the 2nd best guard and permimeter player of all time behind MJ...Kobe has surpassed Magic and Bird, in accomplishments and stats...Sorry, but the facts are the facts...

As for Duncan, he's down the list has top Big Men to ever play the game. Behind greats, like Wilt, Bill Russell, Hakeem, Jabbar, Shaq, and possibly even behind Karl Malone, and Moses Malone.....Arguments can be made for K.G as well being better than Duncan..

I haven't seen one decent argument on here for Duncan over Kobe. It's just silly or coming out of the mouths of Haters. I think one moron says, Kobe isn't on his starting 5 team. Well I guess that's because of the ruptured achillies.

Kobe and Duncan have gone head to head 6 times in the playoffs. If you watched those series it was obvious who the better player was...Kobe. In 2001 when Kobe was 22 years old, Kobe averaged 35 pts a game in the playoffs as the Lakers SWEPT timmy boy....Oh I'm sure it was all because of Shaq..LOL>>>

Bottom line Kobe is 4-2 against Duncan in the playoffs. And 4-1 vs Duncan in the playoffs after his teenage years....

Nice try Haters. LOL..

Deal with it.

Peace!!!

If Phil Jackson would take Russell over Jordan, I think he would take Duncan over Kobe in a heartbeat.

Duncan probably gets the nod.

The main argument is that Duncan was always the alpha dog.

Kobe played Robin to Shaq for 6 seasons.
Shaq was 1st team all NBA for all 3 titles.

Timmy was 1st team all NBA/1st team all NBA defense all 4 title years.
No other Spurs made 1st/2nd/3rd team all NBA or all defense in 99,03,05,07.

Zilch, nada. only Duncan.

If the Spurs win in 2013, Tony Parker (2nd team) would be the first.

I have to call BS there. I guarantee Bruce Bowen was all defense in at least a few of those year. If not 1st team in a few of them

Good catch.

Hey dont get me wrong. The fact that Duncan NEVER played with anothwer 1st, 2nd or 3rd team ALL NBA guy during his 4 title runs is impressive as hell and frankly if Bruce Bowen is the only guy to even make the all defensive team then Id say thats pretty effing good by Timmy.

If judging based on playoff series, Kobe is ahead 4-2. 4-1 really because Kobe didn't play in this year's playoff loss to the Spurs. Kobe was very good during the 2008 playoff victory (29.2 PPG, 53.3 FG%).

Either one would be a good start for your franchise. Depends on how you want to build your team (dominant inside player versus dominant wing player). I favor starting with the big man and building from there.
