San Francisco 49ers ? Niner Insider Blog ? SFGate.com » Killion: Eating crow on Kaepernick

I’ve been told that a few of the veteran players went directly to Harbaugh to express their concerns about Smith losing his job. When asked if he talked to his coach, tackle Joe Staley said, “I was kind of vocal with my feelings initially. It’s all well-documented.”

I wasn’t alone in my concern about locker room chemistry: Many who know a lot more than I do shared the same wariness. Virtually every former NFL player to weigh in on the matter expressed similar thoughts.

“It could have been a real problem,” said Steve Young, who knows firsthand about divided loyalties. “It was a big deal. It should not be underestimated.”

This was all already known and documented by others. I just wanted to highlight it again in case there were others that hadn't seen it before or had forgotten about it.

Niners arrive in New Orleans

"I think this team has the best focus on unity and winning I've ever been a part of."

-----------------------

Most of the team's veteran players disembarked first, including center Jonathan Goodwin, who won a Super Bowl three years ago with the Saints.

"You get to go to the Super Bowl with your childhood team, so that's something special to me," he said. "So hopefully I can find a way to win the Super Bowl with my childhood team."

So I just saw about the first 20 or so guys off the plane and I saw ZERO camcorders being used by any of the players coming off the plane. I'm not sure I can ever remember seeing that before? Seems like every year that every other guy that comes off the plane is filming the action as they step off the plane. No? Not a huge deal either way. Just a minor observation that surprised me a little bit.

I don't think Harbaugh got enough credit for managing this potential cluster fuck of a situation. The press gets on him for being so awkward in his press conferences, but only someone who truly can relate to people could have gotten the team through this surprising move without a divided locker room. I can't picture a lot of coaches handling this very well.

They were talking about this on the NFL Network and someone asked Staley about it -- he said it was not a concerted thing, they were just all business

Neat. I'm getting caught up on the news so I missed that. I got a little too wrapped up in the golf tournament today because I knew I wouldn't have time to watch today's round(s) and the finish of it tomorrow with the Super Bowl stuff starting and all the post Senior Bowl stuff I have to sort through.
