Bingo. I couldn't care less about pot. Frankly, I wish it was legal mostly so the potheads would shut up about it. But as long as it is illegal, I agree that it's wise for the NFL to test for it.

And do some of you realize how easy it is to pass the test? There's about a three and a half month period during the offseason where you're allowed to be tested. Most players know when their test will be within a two week or so period. So all you have to do is stay clean for that test, and then you won't be tested again for another year. You could smoke pot all season if you think it helps you recover from games, or if you just love the stuff, and you don't have to worry about failing a test. But if you just can't lay off and you fail that test, all that means is you get tested more often.

It takes multiple failed tests before any suspension occurs, and then it takes quite a few more before you find yourself in Bryant's situation. No sympathy from me, the guy is an idiot.

He missed tests, which defaulted to failures.

Not at all. We just understand the rules. If you miss your test it's considered a fail. It's really not that difficult to understand. Well unless you're toasted?

If he truly has depression issues and that is why he missed the tests, then there are bigger things at risk here.

What a shame. I feel real bad for him. Imagine if he couldn't afford the best shrinks money has to offer? He's an idiot with a weak mind.

...and you have no real understanding of depression.

Of course, it could all be a lame excuse.

I understand that a person suffering from actual depression and not some 20 something with a montra of what has the world done for me lately attitude can get help. The point being he's a millionaire with access to doctors, shrinks and support groups ad naseum. Yet he has a weak mind and oprs to take the lazy way out. He's an idiot and likely does not have clinical depression. More like 20 something clinical laziness. Stop making excuses for him and others in order to support your political opinion for legalizing marijuana.

The two things are unrelated.

I'm not going to say I know Martavis' situation from afar. You can judge someone you don't know from afar and pretend you know something if you wish; I'll take the higher road.

Come on...how do you miss a couple of tests? Seems more he felt the assumed guilt was better than the proven guilt...

What are the odds he knew he'd pop hot so he missed the tests on purpose?

He's not fighting the suspension and if I heard correctly is now seeking help. I'd be claiming depressiontoo. I just forfeited a years salary for being stupid. I normally hold judgement but when it looks and walks like a duck?

I agree now that he rescinded his appeal.

I agree with the people saying "rules are rules". It doesn't matter that it's a stupid rule. As long as it's still a rule then the players need to abide by it or face lose millions due to suspension. People arguing that its "just weed" are missing the point completely. If the league made a rule that no player shall own a poodle it would be just as stupid as the weed rule, but you can bet your ass if I was a player I wouldn't be seen within a mile of poodle. Why risk millions of dollars for weed when an NFL career is only about 5 years long even if they are lucky? Smoke that shit till it comes out of your ears when you retire and nobody will care. Just don't do it until then. No problem.

Martavis Bryant's indefinite suspension is the result of failing six drug tests.:suds:

In other words, the NFL makes you work really hard to earn a year-long ban. Two of Bryant's "fails" were no-shows, which is treated as a straight fail for obvious reasons. Bryant has checked into rehab, while his agent says he's battling depression. In a Monday statement, Steelers GM Kevin Colbert hinted the team plans to hold onto Bryant through his suspension.

Cannot imagine rehab for the Herb Superb. Might as well have rehab for apple juice.....

I could see if it hampered performance.

But I saw an outstanding highlight reel catch from Mr Bryant in last year's playoffs.

I'd like to see an All Herb NFL team. Not an all thug, wife beater or drunk driver team, but an All Herb team.

I think they'd mop up the floor with the roid and booze boys.

Wonder if there are salary cap implications if they would cut him. I dunno, the guy's a great talent, but once you hit Josh Gordon territory, really gotta wonder about his future...
