This is very close to how I'd rank them. I would move The Force Awakens ahead of Return of the Jedi and the Last Jedi ahead of The Phantom Menace and Attack of the clones (though, that isn't a hill I'm willing to die on).

I'm actually surprised by how many people no this board have seen the movie considering the movie bombed.

Harrison Ford is Solo. That issue is probably even bigger than the Last Jedi hate.

I’m pretty sure before Solo bombed wasn’t that actor suppose to be in a reboot of Indiana Jones? I gave Solo a shot from Redbox and I thought it was really good and gave me hope that they salvage Episode 9 from the abomination that was Last Jedi.

Cheating but a tie with

Agree with this. When a movie series stretched nearly 3/4 generations and it is interconnected, you have to accept that the characters you love will not be the star of the show that far down the line. I will agree, the lack of great characters is a sign of mediocre writing(screwed when D and D take over). Rey is alright, and they had a good premise with the Stormtrooper stuff, but are failing to fully capitalize on it.

I didn’t hate TLJ, but for what it did to the original cast with very little payoff, I get it. But the mood/tone of TLJ’s ending is similar to the second film of both other trilogies.

I couldn't agree more about the storm trooper. I thought that a defected storm trooper was a great idea on paper and had tons of potential to be an interesting character with lots of internal conflict and growth, but the execution of it is terrible. Pretty much nothing about Finn's character makes sense. I'll just leave it at that because this would be a very lengthy comment if I got started on what doesn't make sense about him. I'll sort of retract what I said earlier about TLJ doing a poor job with character set ups from TFA. For the most part, I stick to that and I didn't hate the Finn character after TFA but I'd say the problem with his character pretty much all falls on TFA. I'm not sure there was much TLJ could have done to fix the parts that didn't make sense. But having him recover so quickly in "comedic" fashion from a light-saber inflicted spinal injury was a bit dumb. but I consider that more of a plot issue than a character issue.

Rey is alright as a main protagonist but could be better. Not nearly as bad as some say. She's just "meh". TFA made it seem like she had an interesting backstory that could explain why she was so strong with the Force but TLJ opened that mystery box to show us it was empty. I didn't care who she was related to but was just hoping for something that made sense that was interesting. Not once in Episode 7 did she wonder about the identity of her parents. She wanted to know where they were and when they were coming back, and maybe why they left her, but never did she seem to think they were anyone of significance. However, the viewer was led to believe that and had 2 years to speculate. That's why I thought that part of her arc was terrible in TLJ, because all of a sudden she wants to know who they are.

I thought Kylo also had some potential but after 2 movies, his character really isn't doing much for me. I get what Abrams was trying to do in TFA. In the first 2 trilogies, we had his family members who were good guys that were being pulled to the dark side. One resisted and one did not. So now they're trying the opposite approach with him, a bad guy that is being pulled to the light. That's kind of interesting but only really works if you surround him with other strong villains. That appeared to be the case after TFA. We had 3 other named villains who seemed like decent characters. But after TLJ, 2 of them get killed off and the other one is turned into a Looney Tunes villain.

The shame of these (and other) characters being so poorly written is that they seem to have done a decent job casting. I've seen some complaints about the acting in this trilogy but I think the actors are doing a decent job with what they have to work with.

Both The Phantom Menace and The Last Jedi have just a few scenes worth watching, but "The duel of the fates" is far better than anything on TLJ, even when I really liked the fight against the imperial guard.

AOTC is just uneventful. Its bad scenes don't sink as low as anything with Jar Jar, the space battles in TLJ or Finn's casino adventure, but it doesn't have a single scene worth remembering. Even Yoda's first fight, which should have been awesome, looked like it belonged on a Saturday morning cartoon.

I know this may seem strange to some (if not many/most), but I have never seen the Last Jedi, Solo, or Rogue One and I didn't think Phantom Menace should be on there even though I have seen it, so...

My favorite of the 2nd trilogy was the Attack of the Clones. The story behind the Imperial Troopers was interesting and I really liked the combat in the coliseum. The problem with Revenge of the Sith is that they couldn't tell a good story since it had to be acceptable for kids. The result was that you had a bland story that was just nothing. It didn't help that Hayden Christensen is a terrible actor.

So, after going back and watching some of these again with the whole Disney+ thing, they all suck pretty bad....

I mean, they’re fun and entertaining and all, but just after seeing some of the originals again for the first time in a long time, it’s pretty funny thinking about how serious some nerds are about hating some of the newer movies. The original trilogy was corny as fuck... stop pretending it had some great thing going for it that the follow up trilogies don’t...

People have called those SCI-FI westerns but I think they are more like the old Flash Gorden serials... Updated and much better but still your basic adventure film

Yeah, I get what you mean.

One of my many problems with Force Awakens is that Luke is a fucking baby. So one of your trainees goes haywire and offs some people... um, you've been through worse motherfucker, but NOW you have to fly across the universe and hide? Nevermind the fact that you left clues as if you REALLY wanted to be left alone. Just dumb writing.

Never been a big star wars guy though, maybe I missed something.

yeah I think that is what screwed the 2nd trilogy.
The Disney whole not killing people but robots to make it more kid show vs. story. It could have been so much better!

I just saw Rogue One for the first time the other day.

It is hands down the best Star Wars movie. Probably because the only real influence the others had on it was to provide back story.
