  • NFL Network's Tom Pelissero said the Lions and Matthew Stafford have agreed to part ways this offseason.

It appears the team won't fight to keep Stafford aboard for a full rebuild. Pelissero reports Stafford and the team made a mutual decision that the Lions would trade away their franchise QB this offseason after 12 seasons. QB-needy teams like the 49ers, Washington, Panthers, Colts, Jets, and Broncos will probably show interest in acquiring Stafford, though the Lions' price isn't known. Stafford has two years and $43 million left on his contract, "a bargain price for a quarterback who is still playing at a high level," Pelissero said. Stafford will be a marked upgrade for the pass catchers on whichever team he lands on this offseason. Detroit is (very) likely to use their No. 7 NFL draft pick to select Stafford's successor, and perhaps move up even further to secure one of the draft's top signal callers. The trade would likely happen before the fifth day of the 2021 league year in March, when Stafford is due a $10 million roster bonus.

Maybe more. Gotta think New England and others will come with good offers. Mayhew drafted him, so we'll see.

lol no way in hell it will cost a 1st
Last week when I brought up Stafford I was asked "why and the hell would Detroit let him go?" This time I really do hope to be wrong.

I wonder if Stafford has a choice on where he goes. Plus does he want an extension like Smith got when traded? Its funny how everyone hated Allen for trading for Smith and now Mayhew is probably going to trade for Stafford. The philosophy is the same trade for a veteran QB. I was in favor of the Smith moves back then and I m in favor for trading for Stafford now.

We also have players we can trade. Allen, Collins, Ionman. Plus two 3rd round picks this year.

Scheffty just said Lions want at least a first.

The Lions might want a first, but that doesntmean that they’re gonna get it.

I wouldnt trade the Lions a first rounder for Stafford.
I’d trade them Collins straight up though. Even throw in a 4th rounder.

Coach ? Lose the locker room over TH ? But if you think we are winning a trade war without giving up the 19 ( or the 1st rounder in 22) I think you are dreaming .

Trading the injured Collins for a franchise qb ? Come on

Ironman or Allen or Collins or all plus. 2 3rd rounders ? So we are offering up 2 injured players and a 3rd ? . What the hell is that ?
