Newton’s contract with NE was for a MAXIMUM with all incentives, of $7+ million.

Sheffter is thinking Newton played well enough to triple his pay on the open market, after not being resigned by a qb needy Pats team?

Stay off the pipe.

Colts or Saints might trade for Stafford, because they literally are just a qb away from competing for the super bowl.

What the Steelers do depends on Ben, but if I’m the Steelers, I’m thinking that Ben wasnt the problem - the defense was, and the lack of a consistent running game.

If the Saints trade for Stafford, then it is likely that Winston is released. He might be a free agent anyway. I dont know.

Perhaps the lasik surgery Winston had, plus some good coaching by Payton helped Winston become a better player.

I’d take a flyer on him too, if he became available.

Phillip Rivers was plenty good for Indy this season. They are not a QB away.

Yes skinsdad even tho Heinicke lost the players where so happy for him now if you throw him under the boss it can and could cause friction .. if Alex retires you bring in cheap vet and draft qb in 2nd or 3 rd rd. And go with Heinicke ,Alllen and the Qb you Drafted . If you plan on using draft pick for trade for a qb scout other teams back up. Mariota for 3rd ? Etc etc

No way.

If they can land a proven veteran QB like Stafford, the locker room would be just fine with it.

Keep Heinicke as a back up. He earned that. But 1 solid game from a player who came out of nowhere does not entitle Heinicke to anything at all next year. And everyone in the Washington locker room including Heinicke knows this.

I didnt say that I thought the Lions would agree to trading Collins for Stafford.

Why would they?

I also threw in a fourth rounder btw.:D

Stafford is a very good qb, but he’s 33, and the question is how long is he going to play at a high level? Two years? Three?

Is the WFT less than two years removed from consistently competing for the super bowl?

Watson is the obvious big ticket qb target, but the price is prohibitive.

I dont think the cost outweighs the benefits of either qb, but especially for an older qb from a bad team who has had a fair amount of injuries, and its debateable how many good years he has left.

Just my .02
My post wasn’t aimed at you

Stafford is under contract in 2021 and 2022. Our cap hits at QB, if we trade for Stafford, would be 20 mil and 23 mil. So is he worth those hits? Obviously he is, but what would his cost be after that? This gives us a two year window to win the SB.

What will it cost us? The starting cost is a 2019 first round pick. If this was a young Stafford, costing only rookie money for five years, he would easily be worth the pick. Well, this isn’t. This is a much better Stafford but only under contract for two years.

Over the last couple of drafts, we have selected multiple first round picks in the teens that were possibly top five picks...Allen, Sweat, and Haskins...two have been very good. So is older, better, more expensive but not as expensive as he is good Stafford worth more than an OT, WR, or CB that may fall?

These are the questions that need to be pondered.

They are a QB away from being a good playoff team.

Tough to see them beating the KC’s of the world.

Any team could look bad when compared to the Chiefs.
Mahommes is that good, and so is Reid.

OTOH, The Colts have a good defense, a good running game, and a few weapons on offense.

They are well coached, and have few weaknesses.

Another good offseason, and they could absolutely contend for the super bowl.

I think we are gonna have a hard time coming up with the best offer for Stafford. Fingers crossed though.

here is another thing to consider , if he gets hurt (the reason i hated the CDC trade ) is you end up getting a couple of half seasons from him . now to beat out the 49ers and such you will have to give him a juicy extension just like you gave CDC

so you will be giving up a 1st rounder and maybe a 2nd or 3rd or both and a player (allen or ionman )

also remember we beat one team with a winning record (steelers ) and the rest were patsies and most were 2 scores + losses
