I think Adrianza is a LOCK. It's between Hicks and Abreu now, but I haven't seen anything from Abreu lately, and Hicks is making a great case. Playing 3 IF positions (2B, 3B, SS), hits for some pop. He was chatty with the fans on the sidelines. Seems confident.

Petit and Huff is another battle, Petit has the edge but both guys are throwing well. That'll go down to the final few days.

Perez and Colvin is the other position battle. Perez hot a bomb today, he had some great ABs. He missed a catch, but it was a sliding grab so nothing easy. Still, he had it in his glove but dropped it.

Finally, the last 2 bullpen spots. Anyone's guess who gets it, but Law has lasted past all the cuts so far, even longer than Hembree. Bodes well for him.

Well look at you, you prescient bastage.... Abreu waived today.

Re-updated 3/24...to reflect the Noonan and Tobin cuts I apparently missed. 4 cuts to go.

This looks right unless Hicks gets sent down because a) Scoots not put on DL OR b) Colvin kept.

So Boch has pretty much said, with as much respect to Scutaro has he can, that Scoots will start the season on the DL. The lineup picture is becoming clearer too. Boch divulged a bit on that today.

Vs. Right-handed starters, I'd expect the lineup to go as such (with Scoots out):

CF-Pagan
SS-Crawford
1B-Belt
C-Posey
RF-Pence
3B-Sandoval
LF-Morse
2B-Arias/Hicks/Adrianza

Vs. Left-handed starters, I'd expect:

CF-Pagan
2B-Arias
C-Posey
RF-Pence
3B-Sandoval
1B-Belt
LF-Morse
SS-Crawford

Boch said Posey would bat 4th vs. righties, 3rd vs. lefties and Belt would drop from 3rd to 6th.

I think you need to flip Panda and Pence...Pablo will hit cleanup.

Affeldt may start the season on the DL. He has a sprained right-knee.

So, assuming Petit, Huff, and Machi make the team, that leaves Law and Gutierrez as the remaining options to take his place. BUT, the Giants only have one 40-man spot left to fill. With Sctuaro very likely going to the DL, Hicks is expected to take that last 40-man spot. So, assuming the Giants don't DFA anyone, that actually leaves Kontos, Dunning, Hembree, and Kickham vying for the last spot. My guess is Kontos will be the man.

There are a few possible DFA candidates: Kieschnick, Noonan, Strickland. The Giants are high on the latter 2, but seemed disappointed with how RK came into camp this year. They'd still probably like to keep him around for now though, making Kontos an easy choice IMO. He didn't pitch his way out of camp whatsoever, there just wasn't a spot for him.

Well, referring to my last post, apparently the Giants don't see the demoted guys as options to replace Affeldt. So, it's welcome to the big leagues Law or Gutierrez. And Bye-bye someone on the 40-man. Unless they plan to place Scutaro on the 60-day DL, but that seems doubtful at this point. Remains to be seen.

Hembree must have screwed the pooch, somehow. He seems to be the obvious choice (from an outsiders POV), yet the org would rather do a 40-swap than give him the job.

I heard they wanted him to work on his secondary pitches more. But I agree, I think most of us were pretty confident penciling him into the bullpen after his September performance.
