Deadline: "Disney-Sony Standoff Ends Marvel Studios & Kevin Feige's Involvement in Spider-Man"

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige won't produce any further Spider-Man films because of an inability by Disney and Sony Pictures to reach new terms that would have given the former a co-financing stake going forward. A dispute that has taken place over the past few months at the top of Disney and Sony has essentially nixed Feige, and the future involvement of Marvel from the Spider-Man universe, sources said.

Disney asked that future Spider-Man films be a 50/50 co-financing arrangement between the studios, and there were discussions that this might extend to other films in the Spider-Man universe. Sony turned that offer down flat.

Disney wasn't at all interested in continuing the current terms where Marvel receives in the range of 5% of first dollar gross, sources said.

Eh, yes and no. Sony was doing the actual "work" of the movie, at least the lion's share of it (Feige did some consulting and what not). But the success of the last two movies undoubtedly came from them being associated with MCU. I could see where a 50/50 split would be considered high for Sony. But that was Disney's initial offer. It's a negotiation and they expected a counter. It's total bullshit that Sony just straight up left the table like that without even countering. It doesn't have to be 50/50, but Disney deserves more than 5%

Sony did Spiderverse and two good Spiderman movies that included the MCU.

They will keep doing Spiderverse stuff

and with Venom, it gives them a lot more to work with.

Spiderman really only had a connection with Stark, who is dead. I think they can move on pretty cleanly.
