Doctor Strange 2: In the Multiverse of Madness will be released on Friday, May 7, 2021 Friday, March 25, 2022 Friday, May 6, 2022 as the 4th 5th film (following Shang-Chi Spider-Man 3 and preceding Thor 4) of phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe! Scott Derrickson is returning as director. Update: Sam Raimi will direct instead.

Makes sense if they are going for a more horror type feel for a Marvel movie like they hinted at. The tie in to WandaVision makes me actually interested in that show now too. Previously I didn't give a shit about SW or Vision and found them rather boring and underutilized in the prior movies. When I saw they were getting a TV show, I was like "why?". But since the announced tie in to this Dr. Strange movie, I've seen some good speculation and theorizing about how SW's powers could split open the multi-verse (the Dr. Strange tie in) and setting up a chain of events that eventually leads to the introduction of The Fantastic Four and/or mutants (thus the X-men)

Scott Derrickson, director of the first Doctor Strange, just announced that he is dropping out as director of the second movie due to creative differences with Marvel:

Marvel and I have mutually agreed to part ways on Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness due to creative differences. I am thankful for our collaboration and will remain on as EP.

Pretty sure the creative differences were this guy wanted to make a horror movie and do something fresh, and Kevin Feige wanted to make the same type of Marvel movie they have been making for over a decade now.
