Nebraska should be playing to win out and let the chips fall where they may.

What is known is they control their own destiny for the Big XII trophy.

The odds that every team currently ranked ahead of Nebraska in the BCS finishing out the season unbeaten or with no further losses are slim..Any losses by AQ's (which is likely) will stir up the human polls as well as the computer formulas and open some doors.

Further losses by Oregon St, Baylor, Utah, and Virginia Tech are going to hurt the non AQ's in the computers because those games are the highlights of their resume's. The humans after the CCG's are played will have to look at the body of work by TCU and Boise when considering whether or not to put them #2 on their final ballots. There will be dissenters who won't buy into the WAC and MWC strength. If the humans can get near a 60-40 split the computers will put a one loss AQ ahead of them @ #2.

When all is said and done after the CCG's, I expect one undefeated AQ (Oregon), two undefeated non AQ's (TCU and Boise St) and three one loss AQ's.

The battle right now isn't for the number one spot....It's for #2..

Our first goal Im assuming is to win our conference, what comes after that has little to do with anything but name brands and the media whores. Ill be completely happy with winning the big 12 if we do in fact play in it. The NC game would be great but it's not the end of my Husker Football World if we don't make it. It would be quite a sordid reality if all the teams that aren't getting a shot at the title just quit playing all together. GBR!!!!

Actually this isn't entirely true. Nebraska has to be one of TWO Big XII teams to make a BCS bowl in order to have the reduced buyout. With two very good non AQ schools in the mix, I think it would be rather difficult for the Big XII to send two teams. If Nebraska is the only conference team in a BCS game, we have to pay the higher buyout amount.

We just need to focus on winning out and taking the Big XII championship trophy out the door. Even if we end up playing the Big East champ in the Fiesta, I'll personally be ok with making a trip up to the game. Fiesta bowl much closer to Tucson than the Rose bowl....

.....and yes if all the stars align for the Huskers for more than that...the championship game is in my backyard too....
