i got my license earlier this year after so long.....what are the right cars for a man in his 30s, single. I'm not looking for expensive as it is out of my range. I want a car that looks like a man's car and will last a while. I will probably getting a used car from a few years ago-2014 if things work out. I am planning to go to a Toyota and Kia dealer each. There are used Toyotas, Chevys, Fords and my choices are down to Toyota and Chevy as I would not look right driving a Ford-my driver drives a Chevy though I'm not a fully committed NASCAR fan these days. The Camry, Corolla, Malibu, Cruze are four I thought of for a sedan. For a SUV I thought of the Rav4, the GMC Terrain, and Chevy Equinox.

And what is a good color. I don't want red, but one that shows I'm not old. I like black or blue. But what others are interesting?

Forget how you think you look in it and test drive a few and pick what YOU like to drive. You will pay a bit more for a used Toyota but they hold their value longer than the average car.

Get something with full bolt-ons, a blower, and find a good tuner to make it go fast.

Huge fan of Acura's.
My wife and I have had a number of them over the years.
She recently got rid of the RL like the one above.
Was 8 yrs old, with 280,000 miles, and still looked, and drove, like new.
Actually was able to get $8000 for it.

Forget the GM cars, especially used.
Go for the best selling vehicle in America 35 years in a row.
Something for a real man.

A built ford tough? Well I said I don't want a Ford. I'd rather a Chevy truck but those things are pricey.

You have to simply do your research on what you want and what is important for you. Price range, fuel economy, re-sale value, NVH, do you need to tow/haul anything, long trips/city runaround vehicle, etc. etc. Join or read through several automotive forums to get opinions of real world drivers with their experiences and potential issues. Then, you have to test drive them as thoroughly as you can because you'll be basically living in the cockpit for the duration.

Forget that stuff about 'not looking right' in a Ford....it's YOUR vehicle. It's YOUR money. If for whatever reason you believe someone would look down on you for buying a Ford, then tell them to buy the vehicle for you. I'll never buy a Dodge or GM product the rest of my life, but I'm never gonna tell anyone else to avoid those companies. It's my personal choice.

My preferences only - In general, I'd go Honda or Ford over Toyota and GM when it comes to either sedans or SUV's. I'd avoid the Focus however. Just my opinion. Trucks? The F Series without question gets my money. It's simply the best truck on the market. Again...my opinion.

Just bought yesterday an 2001 Audi A4 with only 57,000 km on it. Mint condition. With 4 brand new snow tires on it.

Wonderful little car. Will be my commuter for my daily 160 km round trip.

My cousin had one, drove it from Charlotte, NC to the gulf coast of FL. Best driving sedan I've ever been in and if I had a car (not SUV) this is what I'd have.

If you're going to the Kia dealer, test drive a Sorrento and an Optima. Both really good models.

The Hyundai equivalents are the Santa Fe and the Sonata, there's a good chance the Kia dealer will have those models also.

I second this. I still have my 2002 Acura RSX (not my "main" car anymore), and it still runs like a dream, love that damn car

Takes less than a hour each way and I get $0.55/KM which is paying for my used Audi....

Plus I get to decompress on the drive home and vent my spleen at asshole drivers, rather than walk in to the house after a 5 minute commute seething.....

My brother has an old A4 with a couple hundred thousand miles on it. Those and Benz last forever but you have to keep the maintenance up and that's not that cheap.

I bought stuff like this, locally - not on Ebay - back when I didn't waste gobs on cars. You find some old broad with a nice car and no miles. You can buy a sweet ride like this, with 20k miles, for less that $15k.
The extended warranty on an American car like this would be cheap, too.
