Just checking in to see how my brothers and sisters did hunting this past year.

My son and I spent a shit load of hours in the woods during the bow and rifle season. Saw quite a few deer but no shooters.

It was a very tough year here in central VA. The acorn mast was non existent so us hunters who only have woods to hunt had tough times since the deer moved to the fields a lot more. I killed a doe in bow season and then killed a big buck (200lb+ before field dressed, big around here) that had just shed it's antlers at my friend's hunt club 2 weeks ago running dogs. I missed a doe on the last day (saturday). I was hoping for 3 or 4 this year to fill the freezer but of all my friends I was the only one to kill more than 1.

So I bow hunt where I live (have decent acreage) and spent over 2 months trying to get one and then I had two come right to me for two straight days the week before Christmas.

This buck appears to have been in a fight as most of his rack was missing (very unfortunate for the base of the rack was pretty nice). The other was a doe.

Also had an 8pt walk up on me later that same week and I flat out missed - was a nice one for sure....

Oops that was a typo. I meant 200… The canyon I was in made for a downhill shot. Could have been around 180 flat, but hard to say what the real distance was.
