First, I expected the departure of Demarco Murray and am good with that. It didn't make sense for Dallas to pay him the kind of money he got.

I am more disappointed in the lack of effort to bring back one of either Carter or Durant at LB. Dallas needed to pony up the cash for one of them IMO. It was a mistake to let them both walk. And bringing back McClain is no sure thing either. I felt it was necessary that Dallas needed to bring back most of the existing talent in the LB corp. The reason I feel this is so important is because while Dallas has some talented guys, they are not very durable and quality depth behind the likes of Lee and (possibly) McClain is crucial. Right now we are counting on Keith Rivers to be the primary back up -- maybe even start if McClain isn't back -- and Rivers has done absolutely nothing in the NFL.

The defense needed to have one unit that didn't need attention going into the draft. Now Dallas is looking at needing talent at all 3 levels of the defense heading into the draft. With the likelyhood that Dallas drafts a RB in the first 3 rounds higher than ever, it seems that there will likely be some holes on the defense going into training camp.

Not sure I understand restructuring Tyron Smith's contract this early in the game since Dallas didn't have any agreements in place that required the cap space.

For the most part I get and agree with about everything you said, but it is still early. If we sign McClain we go into next year with our 3 starters and I'm excited about all 3...IF of course.

I felt just like you did. I wanted McClain and one of the other two. But, to be honest I would have been pissed if we gave Carter the deal he got. He played well at the end of the year, but inconsistent players don't deserve anywhere near that contract IMO. He was benched last year and would have been benched this year if everyone was healthy. He lucked out, because he eventually came on very strong and earned a big pay day...

I suspect that Jerry Jones will sign some lower echelon free agents at a more reasonable price. The Cowboys lack the cap space of many other teams.
