Who else's fault would it be? You can't blame the players as a group, cuz that's coaching, too.The Eagles fell apart at the end of the 2023-2024 NFL season. There's no doubt about that, but is that really his fault? Look at these stats:
- 34-17 as a head coach
- Eagles finished second place in the NFC East in 2021 and 2023. First place in 2022.
- Went to a Super Bowl.
- All three seasons he's helped take the Eagles to the playoffs.
Why in the world would you fire him?
I am no Eagles fan, or follow the organization that closely. But I do not see why you would fire your head coach. We have seen in the past the concept of the Super Bowl hangover. The Chiefs are one of the few teams which can consistently win playoff games year after year, and avoid any hangovers.Who else's fault would it be? But if he knows what went wrong and has a plan to fix it, he's earned that chance.
Hangover usually doesn't kick in at 4 pm the next day, tho.I am no Eagles fan, or follow the organization that closely. But I do not see why you would fire your head coach. That's a big part of it for sure nut but the LBs and back end of the defense were absolutely awful as well. Howie needs to address that quickly. Only Washington's defense worse down the stretch than Philly's. You can't win in this league with one side of the ball that bad. And obviously it gets compounded when you lose Steichen and the offense becomes predictable and average.Because he thought Brian Johnson could call plays.
When they decided to fuck with his DC and make that horrible decision to go from Desai to Patricia the front office can no longer hold him responsible for the collapse.Looks like he is staying, which means that Philly is probably doomed next season. He'll be on a short leash and they'll likely fire him midway or after the season and then have to start over
That's true but you know in Howie's mind he placed Patricia who he thought was better, still failed and still Nick's fault. They hate being told their wrong but Nick survives at least 1 more season. When they decided to fuck with his DC and make that horrible decision to go from Desai to Patricia the front office can no longer hold him responsible for the collapse.
I think the biggest Nick issue is the offense. If the design of the offense and design of the system is truly on Nick that needs to be addressed. Brian Johnson may have taken a huge bullet for Nick this season. Most believe that Johnson is the issue. Yet…he’s now up to 3 or 4 interviews for head coaching positions. That tells me that the league knows that the offensive issues with the Eagles aren’t Brian Johnson. 1. Nick stays but he’s on notice. He’s a vibes and culture guy and a pretty solid game manager. I’m good with that because you need a CEO type in this role.
2. Nick needs to be removed from the offensive day to day as much as possible. Let Brian Johnson run HIS offense and HIS system and tailor it better to Jalen’s strengths, a player BJ has known since Hurts was 7 or 8 years old.
3. Start over on defense. Bring in an aggressive DC (maybe not Wink Martendale but some one like that) who will dictate to the offense instead of playing bend don’t break that has become so common place in the league.
The goal is for them to get back to playing complimentary football. They need a balanced attack that can run and pass at a high level and possess the football. They need to get out in front offensively to help make the opposing offensive one dimensional. They also need a ton of personnel changes on defense. They need a talent infusion on all three levels of the defense.
They have three picks inside the top 60 this year in the draft. They’ve had the luxury of being able to draft depth guys who could sit for a year the last few years. This year they need three immediate contributors on defense out of those picks.
All good points. My problem is will Nick allow Brian Johnson to run his scheme without any interference. Meaning will he keep his hands off the offense even if hits a bump during a game and allow Johnson to make his own changes? Nick on the hot seat might get trigger happy and take back control.I think the biggest Nick issue is the offense. Not anymore. When he first took over the Eagles started 2-5 and he gave up play calling to Shane Steichen. Steichen had the Eagles on an incredible 1.5 year run of 23-8 including playoff games. Brian Johnson was running Nick’s offensive scheme and play design this year and clearly it didn’t work out at all. Looking at the all 22s of what they were doing this year, I don’t know fully who is responsible but it’s clear that it was straight malpractice what they got from offensive coaches this year. NFL offenses should feast vs cover zero blitzes and it’s been the Eagles undoing. Is Nick the play caller?
He is definitely a vibes and culture guy. I think he’s rather ordinary or even subpar as an “offensive mind”.Or does he just play Head coach?

This isn't surprising as the int in the Seattle game came from AJ and Hurts calling their play different from what was called in. Of course end result is game over and If Hurts even bothered to take a peek he would have seen Gainwell 10yds down field open with another 10+ of field in front of him for a FG goal attempt. This falls on Nick for not getting his house in order.Welp.
It looks like Brian Johnson is going to get scapegoated. I don’t know if we will ever get the full story.
