Should the AP continue to rank teams in the top 25 if team is not bowl eligible

I'm kind of on the fence with this.

The AP uses SOS a lot when ranking teams. But if you're good, end up 11-1 or 10-2, ranked in the top 10 but not bowl eligible....not sure if the 1 or 2 teams that beat you (which more than likely will be ranked higher, but not always the case) should be taken into consideration considering that you're not bowl eligible.

Yes, they should. Just because a team isn't bowl eligible, doesn't mean that they're not still playing the games and not one of the top 25 teams!!

Since the teams not bowl eligible affect the teams they play they really have to.

I see your point, but in the end still ranking the team can effect for the good or bad to other teams when it comes to the final poll and bowl bids.

The AP seems to be the most neutral / non bias poll. Some coaches don't even like having to vote each week.

Ya, but ultimately, the poll means nothing for the last several years. BCS doesn't use it.

And for the record, I think the Harris is the least agenda driven poll.

Coaches can be agenda driven.

But man, that AP has had some laugher entries. Agenda driven at its finest. That is why the BCS got rid of it

OK....if that's the case, then we'll just say "should they still be eligible to be ranked by all who do polls"

That's basically what I'm asking.

No, if non eligible teams are voted on then it completely messes up the polls for determining both the BCS games and the NATTY

That is not true at all. The AP pulled it's poll from the BCS and TOLD THEM to stop using it.

Ya, that's what the Associated Press says. They were black balled.

Do we even need to go over all of those bogus Press guy ballots that were being mocked.

AP was saving face. And that is giving them the benefit of the doubt.

AP pulled it's ballots the following year because they disagreed with who should win the Natty.

The AP has been wanting a playoff forevah.

Yep.

Our schools looked to keep everything in house with the voting and not let some rogue voters in the AP decide shit.

Coaches, and then you have the Harris Poll voters with a lot of ex-coaches and former players, and then the computers. As in house as they could get even with the decide upon computer system that they have devalued over the years.

The member schools can at least control 2/3rds of the system. AP or Harris Poll for the other 3rd? You'd be dumber than a post to believe the schools would take the opinion of journalists over former coaches, players, and former executives of their own universities.

Either way, take a look at the AP voters. I wouldn't even trust my own local writers to put together a competent list of teams.

They need to drastically cut down on teams. 120 is just way too many and 70% don't have a chance to make the title game from day 1.

If your team hasn't won an AP National Title while on a bowl ban, your team ain't shit.

The AP is the most respected poll. But there is no reason to eliminate anyone from the polls. The bowls are the post season, not the whole season. Continue to rank everyone.

Why drop anyone? A bowl is just another game. Show those teams that only play 12 in the regular season be dropped for those that play 13?
