sampras had a great serve, but what made it even greater was his ability to serve and volley, and play an all court game. sampras had the edge over agassi because agassi was one dimensional, like many players with 2 handed backhands are..

a one hander is more versatile. you can hit flat, topspin, or slice and dice, yet still get plenty of power.. it also enables a player to stretch out and cover more ground.

laver, sampras, federer, graf, navratilova, all seem to have one thing in common. these people are the best of the best.

Everyone can hit a 1 handed slice BH. They all do. Having a 1 hander alone leaves you vulnerable to high balls though. Inside out FHs destroy a 1 handed BH. Hard to control the ball. It is why Djoker does it a lot vs Fed even though his BH is better and why he beats him more often then not. Same thing with Sampras. As soon as he got too slow to run around his BH he got beat regularly.

you can hit high balls with 1 hander easier than a 2 hander. a high slice is much easier with a 1 hander. having two hands on the racket restricts reach and flexibility.

i'm not sure why an inside out fh would destroy a 1 handed backhand. it seems the extra reach would assist in getting to the ball.

most 2 handers can hit a 1 handed slice, but the two hander is still their primary attacking shot. most are just using the 1 handed slice to play defense. they aren't chipping and charging, or using it to vary the pace and spin.

djokovic has an edge over federer in the last few years because federer is 6 years older. prime federer dominated djokovic.

sampras tailed off in his later years because his entire game declined.

federer, sampas, and laver's one handed backhand's were not only efficient, it complimented and facilitated their all court games, making them the best of the best. players with 2 handers are often one dimensional baseline players.

Increases wingspan more at the cost of stability but if you can muscle it like Boris could you were golden.

Unless you are a tall dude like Guga. Even Gastón Gaudio who beat Guillermo Coria in that infamous FO final had a great backhand and that’s where he did damage against a double handed backhander like Coria who was arguably the best clay courier at that time in the world. But Nadal gets an edge because he is a leftie so his FH COMES HARDER AND WITH MORE TOPSPIN TO THE BACKHAND OF A ONE HANDED RIGHT HANDER BACKHAND WING. and hence he does more damage. Gastón Gaudio was only 5’9”!and yet had a fierce backhand that one him that title.

The Nole argument is weak because he like Nadal is a power pusher staying relatively 90% of the time at the baseline and hoping for an error from Fed. If Fed is on he will beat both of them badly in the last set. But Fed’s own problems are inconsistencies when he is ahead not closing out matches. That’s why he lost so many against Nadal and Nole.

increased reach, and versatility sounds simple enough. some of the two handers can really drive the ball, but they sacrifice reach and versatility, and often are one dimensional.

prime henin had a lot of success against serena because her one handed backhand allowed her to retrieve serena's serve and crosscourt shots, and play at all positions on the court. henin could stroke with serena or play serve and volley, whereas serena simply relied on the power game.

juniors these days start lessons at such a young age, they are taught to hit a 2 hander at very young age, before they are able to hit a 1 hander. as a result they use the 2 hander as an adult, rather than change their style and convert..

Serena’s power game strategy is terrible and one dimensional mostly relying on the opponent to hit weaker shots to her ( in the battle of power rallies) so she can put them away for the eventual winner. She is clueless against versatile players who employ a wider variety of shots and move around well on the court.

About the one handed backhand it’s a more superior shot and more aggressive shot than the two hander because

    1) it allows you to drive the winner home down the line or cross court while the two hander crosscourt is just a safe shot and with topspin can only draw an UE off the single handed bh opponent if it lands deep. The down the line bh is more damaging and can get you winners.
    2) if you can move well and set up the body positioning for the one handed backhand you have the edge over the opponent if they have a double hander with shorter reach.

Just so we are all on the same page one can only hit a bh slice EFFECTIVELY with a one handed shot..

henin was also a much smaller player, yet covered more ground the serena, partially because of her 1 hander.

from about 2003-2007 henin was 5-2 against serena, and 4-1 in slams. serena got most of her wins again henin early in henins career or later after she had been out of tennis for awhile.

if 2 handers were so superior, everyone would using a 2 handed forehand as well.

Henin owned that one handed bh shot like no one else I have seen.

Granted that women’s game generally doesn’t produce too much power on the shots and it’s easier to handle shots to the bh while men are capable of MUCH MORE topspin and MUCH MORE power so the shots to one’s bh wing and the more difficult it is to handle it or drive winners with it but still Henin’s bh was a thing of beauty!

Actually, Serena is a victim of the morons, the white nationalist and chauvinistic egg heads who are non tennis fans but as soon as they heard it is the black woman populated message boards to vent their spleen. Notice the real tennis fans are those who went to the stadium and didn't want the ego of an umpire to insert himself into a match they wanted and paid to see and decided to boo him. Let him and his whining referees form a union and clam they refuse to participate in any match involving Serena(who will definitely win another slam by the way) and they will be exposed as the clowns that they are.

Give me a break. Serena has been in tennis for a longer period than most men playing today yet apart from a few infractions arising out of frustrations at USO she has been a model of decorum throughout her tennis life.

Complete and abject nonsense. Serena was upbraided and shamed by the media and majority white nationalists on message boards.

Absolute nonsense. Sole exception a completely legitimate cartoon, which unleashed another unjustified fire-storm. Most media goose-stepped to the Serena tune, coming close to white-washing her behaviour.
