Nebraska wins 30-14
Players to Watch
DL Jack Heflin
DL Matt Lorbeck
DL Weston kramer
LB Antonio Jones-Davis
LB Kyle Pugh
S Mykelti Williams
RB Marcus Jones
WR Spencer Tears
TE Mitchell Brinkman
OL Jordan Steckler
Obviously, their defense is pretty good for a MAC team.
Position Comparisons
OL Nebraska - barely
QB Nebraska
RB Northern Illinois - NIU has proven running backs
TE Nebraska
WR Nebraska
DL tie - NIU lost a consensus all american, usually a big hole to fill.
LB tie - good for MAC play, but could not handle Iowa, Utah, and FSU in 2018
CB Nebraska
Safeties tie
Kicking game - Nebraska, NIU will have a new one
Punting - tie
Hopefully, Nebraska has figured out who the starting RB is by this game.
On September 16, 2017, Northern Illinois beat Nebraska 21-17. Mohammed Barry remembers. All the seniors on Nebraska remember.
In order for Nebraska to be the Illinois State Champions they need to beat
Northern Illinois, Illinois, and Northwestern.
NIU went 8-6 and 5-3 in MAC play.
in 2018 NIU lost to Iowa and Utah and barely scored against both of them. Went into double digit scoring against a bad FSU team and lost the game.
NIU was the Conference Champion and beat Buffalo fo the crown.
NIU was stomped in the Boca Raton Bowl by UAB
the MAC went 1-5 in bowl games in 2018.
The second game in a row the Nebraska opponent has a first year coach, Thomas Hammock. Also, new coordinators.
Which means, new systems. Thomas Hammock played RB at Northern Illinois and coached for Baltimore Ravens.
NIU has a grad transfer QB from California. If Childers has problems in the new system, Nebraska might see the Grad Transfer.
With their returning running backs, I expect a run first type of team, run to set up the pass. Hopefully, the Daniels and Davises can stuff them.
NIU will be coming off of a road game AT UTAH. Nebraska off of a road game at dirty playing Colorado.
NIU will also go on the road two weeks later to play Vanderbilt.
NIU has capable running backs, a capable QB, and capable receivers. Not world beaters though.
Nebraska cannot take this team for granted. They should remember 2017. Nebraska won't be looking ahead to Illinois either.
