Nebraska wins 30-14

Players to Watch

DL Jack Heflin
DL Matt Lorbeck
DL Weston kramer
LB Antonio Jones-Davis
LB Kyle Pugh
S Mykelti Williams

RB Marcus Jones
WR Spencer Tears
TE Mitchell Brinkman
OL Jordan Steckler

Obviously, their defense is pretty good for a MAC team.

Position Comparisons

OL Nebraska - barely
QB Nebraska
RB Northern Illinois - NIU has proven running backs
TE Nebraska
WR Nebraska

DL tie - NIU lost a consensus all american, usually a big hole to fill.
LB tie - good for MAC play, but could not handle Iowa, Utah, and FSU in 2018
CB Nebraska
Safeties tie

Kicking game - Nebraska, NIU will have a new one
Punting - tie

Hopefully, Nebraska has figured out who the starting RB is by this game.

On September 16, 2017, Northern Illinois beat Nebraska 21-17. Mohammed Barry remembers. All the seniors on Nebraska remember.

In order for Nebraska to be the Illinois State Champions they need to beat
Northern Illinois, Illinois, and Northwestern.

NIU went 8-6 and 5-3 in MAC play.
in 2018 NIU lost to Iowa and Utah and barely scored against both of them. Went into double digit scoring against a bad FSU team and lost the game.

NIU was the Conference Champion and beat Buffalo fo the crown.
NIU was stomped in the Boca Raton Bowl by UAB

the MAC went 1-5 in bowl games in 2018.

The second game in a row the Nebraska opponent has a first year coach, Thomas Hammock. Also, new coordinators.
Which means, new systems. Thomas Hammock played RB at Northern Illinois and coached for Baltimore Ravens.

NIU has a grad transfer QB from California. If Childers has problems in the new system, Nebraska might see the Grad Transfer.

With their returning running backs, I expect a run first type of team, run to set up the pass. Hopefully, the Daniels and Davises can stuff them.

NIU will be coming off of a road game AT UTAH. Nebraska off of a road game at dirty playing Colorado.
NIU will also go on the road two weeks later to play Vanderbilt.

NIU has capable running backs, a capable QB, and capable receivers. Not world beaters though.

Nebraska cannot take this team for granted. They should remember 2017. Nebraska won't be looking ahead to Illinois either.

And here we go..........

Get ready for a week of "we learned from our mistakes", "we've practiced a lot better", "this team is hungry" yada yada...

N. Illinois only trailed Utah 21-17 in the 1st half. Utah scored 7 in the 3rd Q and 7 in the 4th Q to win 35-17.

N. Illinois will be a lot better than S. Alabama and has recently won in Lincoln.

Huskers move to 2-1 or drop to 1-2?

Friggin wedding .....

hmmmm........Based on what?

There is no home field advantage for the Huskers.
There is no talent advantage for the Huskers.
There is no line advantage for the Huskers.

They've proven as much over the last 2 weeks.

The wedding must be in Iowa, because true Husker fans don't plan weddings on game days.

Yeah I am absolutely not giving Nebraska any respect an the thing is neither is anybody else. I am worried because our defense doesn't work unless our offense is working. The defense hinges on our offense because it forces other teams offenses to play catch-up with Nebraska because we are supposed to score at will. So we can play more aggressive and attack offenses. It doesn't work if you score 17 points at the half.

They're saying #11 Utah is just 8 points better in Salt Lake City. They beat N. Illinois by 18.

The same Utah that drilled BYU 30-12, who just won @ Tennessee.

Just the lines alone make this one a coin flip.

I wonder who would win between....

Nebraska and Tennessee?
Nebraska and UCLA?
Nebraska and Florida St?
Nebraska and Miami?

They should play on Tuesday nights.

Nebraska was obviously kicked out of the Top 25.

No votes in the AP and one vote in the Coaches poll for 'Others Receiving Votes' at #46

Weather for the game. Looks like P/C 20% chance of rain temps at kickoff right around 70

Eric Lee was also very slow and it showed as he could not catch anyone from behind. the Nebraska safeties I did not give as a strength, and now they are a weakness.

The Nebraska Oline which I thought would be a strength against the bad to average teams, is not good. They are all Riley recruits. Obviously, Tanner Farmer and Gerald Foster were important to the line.

I also gave Nebraska the edge on the kicker, now, Nebraska is using a punter to try and kick FGs from 50 yards. Not good. Nebraska kicking game is now a liability against every team. Even the coaches have no confidence in the FG team.

I had told myself I would attend the illinois game if nebraska beats Northern Illinois, now that the game is at 7 PM kickoff, that would mean I stay overnight, I would have rathered just daytripping to Champaign-Urbana, leave early in the morning, come back after the game ends.

Good news, NIU is a bad second half team too. So, which team can be the worst second half offense?

Spencer Tears had a good game against Utah for 5 catches for 112 yards. but he is no Laviska Shenault

I still think Nebraska wins this game, but it is not a given.
