I was just sitting here thinking about where the chips might fall after this retarded mess sorts itself out.

B1G
The B1G holds to their "academics matter" mantra, under the guidance of the CIC and the school presidents, but Delaney ultimately gets what he wants anyway. The list.... Rutgers, Maryland, Notre Dame, Syracuse. Total domination of the NYC market (still the biggest single market despite rumors otherwise) and a foothold in DC Metro, plus the nationwide Irish base.

SEC

The SEC gives the Big 12 the finger once again, pulling VT and Florida State off the board. They get the major presence in Virginia, shore up Florida, and stick their noses into DC metro, making the B1G kinda wish they'd gone after VT.

Big 12

With no shot at anyone in the Florida or Virginia markets, Texas and Oklahoma finally shaft the Big 12, leading their block of four to form a new conference with the Pac 12. West Virginia bolts to the ACC. The Big 12, needing to shore up their AQ qualifier(assuming we still have BCS bowls outside of the playoffs), finally picks up Boise State. They also grab BYU. Then in desperation they take Memphis, Air Force, CSU, Fresno State, San Diego State, UNLV, Nevada, Houston, and Wyoming(yup), and change their name to the Big 16, stealing the B1G's only hope of making sense of their name. They're the FBS doormat now, but TCU and Boise could make things matter if they can build on what they've accomplished. Kansas State could make things interesting. Between the three, they hold off the push for 4 mega conferences for a while.

ACC

The ACC doesn't panic. Tobacco Road holds steady. They grab all of the relevant Big East basketball only schools, forming a mega conference. Then they add West Virginia, Cincinnati, and Louisville after Miami's athletic department finally folds. Their conference name is a little wishy washy now because of the upper midwest additions, but they're better off than the B1G, namewise. And they have the basketball conference they've always wanted.

Pac 12

Becomes the Big West, or something like that, with one division holding the venerable "Pac" name. Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, and Utah get the distinct pleasure of dealing with Oklahoma and Texas...oh right... + TT and Okie Light. It's Republicans vs Democrats in the title game every year. Colorado cries about it, but can't leave and they know it.

Big East

Ceases to exist. CUSA and Big 16 picks up the spare parts.

vv Conference list to follow vv

Nice.

But realistically speaking, SEC isn't going to target FSU, you know they'll be B12 bound. Not sure if Clemson goes with them.

Im more curious as to what happens to UVa and Miami.......do they end up in the Big East?

They'd be crazy not to. Why share the state with 3 major conferences when you can take the lion's share? The Gators are ass backwards if they block FSU. It only hurts the conference. Adding FSU is like adding two states to the "footprint."

Think about it what happens if they add FSU.

1. They would control scheduling, and would get the ratings from both teams, and unless they're playing each other, they will never be on TV at the same time, CBS and ESPN will help make certain of that.

2. Because it will be easy to follow both teams, they would have the vast majority of Florida sports fans in the SEC fold. The casual fans who will ride any bandwagon as long as it says "Florida" somewhere in the name. The people who just love the shit out of football and follow both schools. The hardcore fans. The nationwide bandwagoners who pop up every time Florida or FSU win championships. All of them SEC.

Where does Middle TN go??

florida doesnt care about shoring up the tv market for the sec. they care about being the only team recruiting athletes to the sec in the state.

How long as Florida been in the SEC? How'd that work out for you in the 90s? No reason to believe that this will always work for you anyway. I don't really care, it just seems like the best route for the SEC.
