I always hear people bitching about the quality of movies in recent years. I think it's BS, there are plenty of good movies out there, you just need to filter through more trash.

A few recent ones:
The Iceman
The Conjuring
We Need To Talk About Kevin
Mud
This Is The End

In 1994 I did not need to Find a good movie.

Other people can pay more money for crappier movies, I wont. Especially in this age of FREE Tech....

I don't know if it was great, but I thought Larry David's HBO movie "Clear History" was hysterical. If you're a fan of Seinfeld or Curb Your Enthusiasm I'd certainly recommend it.

I went to a buddy's house to watch the Seahawks PS game on Saturday and we watched this before the game. Short movie, but very funny. "You dont ever punch a white dwarf in the face!"

There has always been lots of crappy movies, even in 94.

Very True. 1994 was one of the worst years for movies before the 2000s. But, you still have 20 movies that came out throughout the year that were very good to great movies. You just cannot compare the worst of yesterday to the average of today....

Movies Central Charts - Top 50 Movies of 2012

'94 gave us Pulp Fiction, Forrest Gump, Shawshank Redemption, Hoop Dreams, and Quiz Show.

I always thought of 94 as a relatively good year for cinema.

I think TV shows have gotten 1000x better. I've seen episodes on TV worthy of the big screen.

And, there are so many more TV options, I suspect it just seems like there are less good movies.

Fully agreed. The quality of non reality TV programming has gone way up and the quality of non action movies has vanished

I actually think the last five or so years have featured a ton of good movies, but so far, this year has been an exception. Other than Mud, I haven't seen a better than 3 star movie all year. There have been a ton of solid 2.5-3 star movies, but the problem is that most movie are more concerned with being "fun" than actually being good.

Movie budgets and salaries are getting so out of control are getting so out of hand, that you need to cater your movie to the mass market. The only exceptions are those that get Oscar nominated, which usually get enough of a boost to make $50-100 Million. These movies are all back-loaded because of the ridiculous politics of winning Oscars, so we are becoming increasingly stuck with no good movies until November.

there's a ton more crappy movies now than there use to be.
they pump them out at an alarming rate, just so they can go to cable.
then cable can say "look at all the new movies in our line up", and charge you out the ass, and you'll pay it.

there are very few really good movies anymore.

Stallone offered Willis $3m for three days of shooting for Expendables III. Bruce requested $4m.

Stalone say FU and hired Harrison Ford, instead.

Oops.
