Okay, I was genuinely curious so I looked it up. Here is the history of the approval rating of Richard Nixon.

Nixon's Presidential Approval Ratings

Through civil rights battles, Vietnam and other international crises, he was hovering around 50% approval. Usually above.

Then you see him start to dip in 1973. January 1973 is when Watergate convictions started. G Gordon Liddy and James McCord are convicted on Jan 30 of 1973. Nixon's approval rating at that moment was 67%. Two of his top aides were convicted and 67% f the country approved of how he was doing his job.

It went steadily down from that point, hitting 39% in July of 1973. That was when he invoked "Executive Privilege" to refuse to testify or turn over documents and it is revealed that the taping system in the White House existed.

It dropped as low as 31% in October, when he was forced to release his tax returns - after his Vice President had to resign for Tax Evasion.

He rose a tiny bit when he finally released the tapes, but he petered out from there and was at 24% approval when he resigned.



Our current sitting president, one month into his term is at 39%.

Our Grandchildren are going to ask us about this period in our history.
