Honestly pretty pathetic from ownership. I get that at the time we were still rebuilding, but if you had any confidence in your front office you'd sign off on that deal under the assumption the team will be competitive by the back end of the deal.@NWinAZ has already written you back on it. Ownership didn’t want that extra year, so instead offering an extra $5 million a season or make up the different a 4th would’ve cost they just said no. They can still have a top tier payroll that doesn’t cripple the future, don’t sign Cano type deals, sign 3 years with a club or player option but massively overpay for those seasons. If a player wants 8/250 give them 3/90 with a player option. It’s not super long term.
It’s like they honestly troll the fans when we have begged for a FA hitter because they spend their money on pitchers or dudes who will DFA’d soon.
One thing that concerns me about Wong is he adjusted his swing when he went to the Brewers so he'd hit more fly balls in a homer friendly ball-park. Hoping that doesn't cause any problems when he comes to Seattle.
