@NWinAZ has already written you back on it. Ownership didn’t want that extra year, so instead offering an extra $5 million a season or make up the different a 4th would’ve cost they just said no. They can still have a top tier payroll that doesn’t cripple the future, don’t sign Cano type deals, sign 3 years with a club or player option but massively overpay for those seasons. If a player wants 8/250 give them 3/90 with a player option. It’s not super long term.

It’s like they honestly troll the fans when we have begged for a FA hitter because they spend their money on pitchers or dudes who will DFA’d soon.

Honestly pretty pathetic from ownership. I get that at the time we were still rebuilding, but if you had any confidence in your front office you'd sign off on that deal under the assumption the team will be competitive by the back end of the deal.

One thing that concerns me about Wong is he adjusted his swing when he went to the Brewers so he'd hit more fly balls in a homer friendly ball-park. Hoping that doesn't cause any problems when he comes to Seattle.

And one more thing is how bad their 2026 “projections” with payroll had Lewis, Gilbert and Kelenic all took those deals. I don’t think Raleigh was offered it but

Imagine how fucked we'd be if we had given Lewis a contract extension after he won ROY. Really dodged a bullet there.

Winker had to go so that alone is a win, but are we better? Not yet. And yes I found that ironic as well. I remember so many fans talking about how both were just great trades at their respective times. Uh not so much.

I'd say on paper we're maybe slightly better. Toescar replaces Haniger and Wong replaces Adam Frazier.

Lol it's funny you mention that, I remember I liked the Winker trade and thought Eugenio Saurez was a salary dump who would hit .190 with 20 HRs and a ton of errors.

Can't remember my thoughts on the Toro trade. Don't think I was a fan of it because his numbers with Houston were garbage.

Some baseball people mention we could with Brash, Kelenic (I actually typed Winker before correcting...lol), Ford, and Emerson. Maybe would have to also include #30 pick.

That's kind of a lot but if the Mariners aren't willing to spend, it would be necessary.

I wonder what other baseball execs think of Kelenic. Personally I see a guy who can hit the ball as hard as anyone in the game, but can't make contact or see the strike zone. Hopefully there's someone out there who thinks they can fix him because I'd honestly not rather go through another season of seeing him have one good game then strike out 9 times the next 3 games.

Even if he finds his stroke, I am not sure how long that would last because he is well known for tinkering with his swing multiple times a year. Maybe if it is working he wouldn't, but we have never seen that guy.

What I read was he, like Lamb, had shoulder problem after his MVP season and has never been the same. That is why Conforto scares me. Unless he is cheap, pass.

The problem with guys like Wong and Teoscar is that it shows for the foreseeable future we are looking at 1 year rentals which was the exact opposite of what DIPoto said if likes. If chemistry is so important to the Mariners and he says, that is very hard to achieve with rentals.

I think...Hernandez..will stay longer..and maybe wong..an other year.as well....
