Maybe. We don't even know if we are hiring him.

FTR, we shouldn't assume that someone that knows a player will definitely draft the player. They also know their flaws better than most.
I was only kidding

True, but the relationship between an OC and a QB are huge... and since QB is the most important position on the field, it's a reason why OCs are so quickly going to the HC position now and snatched up.

But yah who knows lol.

This might be a good move but I have the same concerns with him as I did with Ben Johnson. That Lions were absolutely LOADED particularly at the OL. A lot of times a great coordinator is a reflection of tremendous talent.

Doesn't mean that these guys didn't do a good job but it is a lot easier when your whole line is Pro Bowl level and you have guys like St. Brown at skills positions.

I'm excited to see or HC's hybrid 3-4. He runs more 4-3 looks out of his 3-4 base than any other 3-4 team in the NFL. I think that alone will improve the defense and play more to their strengths having so many talented DE's that are more suited as 4-3 DE's.

One thing that seems pretty about Macdonald, and in direct contrast to Pete's defenses, is that he is a big believer in subterfuge and masking coverage.

Now creating the schemes is one thing. We now get to find out how good he will be at building a culture that will execute those schemes properly. I truly believe that was where Pete's defenses fell down the past few years. Too many guys simply weren't doing their jobs.

I like what he brought to UW and think it would be a great OC hire. Side note on this is yes he left for Bama but they have not officially given him the OC tag.

Yeah Pete always said they play vanilla and don't disguise their coverage much. It was a "we're better than you" type thing. For the most part he was right until his HOF backend fell apart.

I'm more excited about the OC and DC they bring in right now. The talent is there on the offense to carry a young QB and I can't wait to see who they get to coach them up. Next season can't start soon enough.

This is why what Mike Mac said today, interesting...

“The offenses out there are too good just to run three things and just say, ‘Hey, we’re gonna beat you,'” Macdonald added.

To easy to scheme up unorthodox plays to beat a vanilla defense. They use solid discipline against them knowing they won't break from the norm. To be honest though this a lack of knowledge and experience from a DC. Hurtts was a bad hire and Mike is all ready showing he is head and shoulders better than the Hack DC the Hawks had.

That's awesome! Hard to find a 5 acre plot here in the Spokane area... Most are 10 plus acres...

It’s crazy how Pete Carroll’s defenses stunk it up so bad for so many years, from having an historical defense then a crap defense for so long wasn’t something I saw coming from a Pete Carroll team .. I think he was blindly loyal to coordinators even if things were bad … Last years stats, ouch …

I've seen a lot of people irritated, through various websites and whatnot, at MacDonald's apparent criticism of Pete's defensive because the LOB was so great, but the defense hasn't been top flight since 2016 and hasn't been a top half defense since 2017. I't ok to recognize the greatness of the LOB while at the same time acknowledging how bad it's been the last few years.

Well said. They had an okay defense in 2018 (think it was close to top 10) but everything else was pretty mediocre or flat out atrocious.

I think Carroll got pretty lucky with the talent that was drafted and those guys just out-muscled every other offense. There was also a TON of leadership on that defense. Sherman, Wagner, Wright, Mebane, ET... that team was FULL of guys where if you weren't playing 100% they'd metaphorically kick your ass into gear. There was no chuckling and laughing on the sideline if Seattle's D was slipping on stuff.

I mean who has Seattle had in the last 5 years where you can say they were a huge leader? Not much... and anyone from the old team was near retirement, they're done with that crap.

Well yeah the Seahawks defense been bad for a good while. Was watching a you tube video from -The Hawks Nest on MacDonald that was pretty good. An interesting bit was them commenting him being brought in as a McVay-Shanahan killer is that McVay was specifically brought in to defeat Pete Carroll defense( he has done a bang up job of it). They had some good input on the draft, if any players from the Ravens would be coming over since some are free agents. Was a good video even if I didn't like all that they said. Here it is:

Well years coaching defenses and some experience as HC. Sort of up there in age but I guess he should be useful helping getting things organized for Mac.
Doubt he was on anyone's radar as a hire.
