AN EMOTIONAL NIGHT FOR METS' FLORES

"When I came up to hit in the 7th I heard everybody cheering," Wilmer Flores said. "I said, why? There's no reason. I thought a trade was the only reason. I was sad, being with the Mets forever, and all my teammates here. That's why I got emotional."

SILENCE FROM BREWERS ON NON-TRADE

Milwaukee's front office isn't saying much in the aftermath of the Carlos Gomez trade that wasn't. "Trades are not done until announced," Brewers GM Doug Melvin said.

From the Mets staff writer

You will recall that Zack Wheeler's Tommy John surgery was more complicated than a regular procedure. Also had partially torn flexor-pronator tendon.

I hope this teaches some media types to be a little more patient in the future. Everybody wants to be the one who breaks the big story, but this was NOT a done deal when all the "Done deal" messages were flying. I have to blame the SNY and WOR announcers for selling it, too.

Flores should have never found out from a teammate, and the crowd's reaction, that he was possibly being traded.

Props to the fans at the game for showing Flores some affection.

Props to Flores for showing he gives a shit and really wants to be a part of this team.

Boo to whomever first presented this as having been completed.

TERRY COLLINS: I DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT TRADE
Said the Mets manager: "Somebody came to me and said Wilmer's crying. I said, 'Why?' 'Well he got traded.' 'To who? For what?' ... There was nothing I knew about it."

OLNEY: METS DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WRONG
Buster Olney likened the non-trade to the 2000 presidential election: "The Mets in theory, you can say, why not take him off the field -- if you did that in every game this time of year, you'd be pulling 4 or 5 players off the field for every game for every team."

A few comments: the trade that never was...

• Flores should hold his head high. The fact that he was going to be traded for an All Star gold glove centerfielder shows that he has worth. I liked the trade but if Gomez is damaged goods then we keep our assets and move forward.

• Flores should now be a Met for life, anyone that wants to be a Met so badly as to cry for the world to see deserves to stay and suffer with the rest of us long suffering fans. Just kidding of course, the kid has a ton of potential and I was almost more upset about them including him in the deal than trading Wheeler due to the fact Wheeler will likely not be 100% until 2017 and by which time some of the other young starters in the system will be ready.

• TC should insert Flores at 2B today he might respond with a huge game. To dump him in favor of Murphy and Johnson, both of whom will not be here next year, is short sighted.
Good non-deal, sometimes the deals you don't make are the best deals.

• Teams need to keep their mouths shut until a trade is official. A player should never have to be put through that. Players know all about the rumors etc., but when an official from a team comes out and tells Gomez he's been traded he should expect him to spread the word. That official should be held accountable for jumping the gun and creating this fiasco. Of course it's our Mets involved here (only the Mets) but the Mets were not at fault here. Although our Mets do many dumb things, not the case here.
Gomez' people that told the reporter. A Brewers official told Gomez he was traded. That's what blew this open.

• I like how Gary Cohen was the only one putting that asterik on the trade last night. These things fall through in the 11th hour more often than we know and for just this reason...medicals.

Whew, Niese got the double-play ball. That could have been a horrible inning.
