The luxury tax was suppose to be the salary floor.LOL
The Red Sox were 2nd in payroll behind the Yankees when they won their WS and they were willing to keep spending.
Cubs were 6th and they kept paying until they realized those players weren’t worth it. Those teams were similar to the same blueprint almost any team has to take unless we are talking the Royals.
They have a nicr farm system and develop young talent.
They sign a big-time FA or two.
If their success continues they pay those young players, unfortubanately, for the Cubs they sold and went into another rebuild. Now they will they another roster with young talent and they will SPEND. It all revolves around an owner that will spend and a GM that make the moves with that money.
So you reference the Rangers who were 4th in salaries but you say the Red Sox and Cubd had the right blueprint. It’s the same blueprint. I will say the Red Sox did it with way more success. The Rangers we don’t know yet. If the Rangers “bought” a championship then that’s what teams have been doing for quite awhile in baseball. Ask the Yankees.
This is why baseball, the system is broken-not the game. They need a cap ceiling and floor. Ohtani will make more than about 13 different franchises payroll in 2024 as of right now.
