The best part about the original post was stating that "Kaep has jumped the shark" & Harbaugh will return to college in two years (probably still bitter about Harbough from a few years ago when the Lions coach made an ass out of himself).

Hmm - let's see - Kaep was within one play of winning the SB & last week played one of the best games ever. He subsequently goes to the most hostile stadium in the NFL against a very good team & falls short. So now he & the team are failures? LOL. You are clueless (same thing with the Kelly comment which was totally inaccurate).

Something about this topic obviously makes him very angry. It's the only explanation for this level of irrationality.

Some of you guys are real nerds. Don't care about Schwartz. Try to stay on topic.

Kaep...exposed? Most 2nd yr starting QBs struggle more in the 2nd yr.

If the turnovers start to pile up...look for Harbaugh to reel him in and do more 1st read, check it down, or run it.

His game has. Can he become a pass first QB? Maybe. But that's my point. Run first QB's don't last long in the NFL.

I suppose that you are going to follow up by telling us you walked 20 blocks to school through 6 feet of snow. Things evolve. Therefore - the players you mention can also evolve & a handful of bad games doesn't mean that a player can't survive. Did you forget that a lot of HOF type QBs had poor first seasons? Should we have labeled them as "done" or "jumping the shark". What gives you the right to make these judgements so early?

Again - time will tell. If any or all of these guys look horrible over the entire season then you will have a pretty good case. Until then - let's hold off on the sweeping generalizations.

You are missing my point entirely. No, it doesn't mean they can't evolve. But it does mean RG3 won't be making a career out running around much anymore. These QB's have legs, but they'll have to learn to use them as secondary weapons if they want to survive in the NFL. RG3 looks DONE. I'm sure he'll blow up next week vs. the Lions but right now he looks like toast. Not sure he can ever develop the passing skills to succeed. That's my point. His little running QB window shut quickly.

Cam has the best arm? What crack are you on?
I replied to this already in the DEN thread, but the recap...7800+ yds in his 1st two season...I don't think any of the young guys will do that.

Current QB rating leaders:

1) P. Manning
2) A. Rodgers
3) M. Vick
4) P. Rivers
5) M. Ryan
6) M. Stafford
7) A. Dalton

6 of the top 7 are traditional pocket passers.

2012
1) P. Manning 2
2) A. Rodgers 1
3) M. Vick 24
4) P. Rivers 11
5) M. Ryan 5
6) M. Stafford 21
7) A. Dalton 13

2012
1) A. Rodgers
2) P. Manning
3) R. Griffin
4) R. Wilson
5) M. Ryan
6) T. Brady

Look at the top of the standing for 2012. Running QB had a better time then most of the Pocket passers you show so far in 2013. RG3 ran the ball 120 times, of which about 70 was from the Read Option. about 4 per game. He passed the ball almost 400 times which is 25 to 27 times a game. None of these QB are a run first QB, but they have a talent that needs to be used to make them better. Look at RG3 this year. No option runs and he has struggled. The Threat of their legs gives them a chance to get the receivers open and run paly action, and have huge gains. I am not saying that a QB should run the option on every play, it is still proven to be effective as a way to keep defenses off guard.

What do you mean by this? More plays are run designed for the QB to run the ball? The QB runs with it instead of throwing it out of bounds when nobody is open?

There is no team in the league that runs more designed plays for the QB to run the ball first.... than they run designed pass plays. Like I said earlier, if the team did, then the head coach or OC would not last long in the league.

No current or past NFL QB had their current job because they can run better than they can throw.

Let's look at it another way. There are 8 teams that are 2-0. Only one of those teams runs the read option. And that team is known for defense more than anything (Seattle).

The other 2-0 QBs:

Peyton Manning
Alex Smith
Matt Schaub
Tom Brady
Ryan Tannehill
Jay Cutler
Drew Brees

Or perhaps another way: three of the five NFC teams that made the playoffs last year ran read option. Or, for the most recent evidence that the claim in the title of this thread is false, simply refer to last night's game!

I don't think the read option will last but the scrambling QB will always have place in the NFL going back to Fran Tarkenton and Roger Staubach.

Problem is they get exposed to big hits and pretty soon more than just RG3 will be on the hurt list.

Manziel is to small to last in the NFL trying to run the ball his frame is small just like vicks.

Just my 2 cents

Ok, honest question time.

If you had your choice between a QB that could run or pass vs a QB that could only pass effectively and you didn't have to give up any throwing accuracy or arm strength, which would you choose?

Should be a pretty easy answer.

Flutie had a long career in the NFL and he was small and he was smaller than Manziel.

True but flutie went to the CFL first and he was NOT a run first QB
I am still trying to figure out what everyone means by run first QB. I have the picture of the wishbone offense and you pass 10 to 15 times a game. Name me one QB that runs a set run play for them more then 15% of the time. Even with all his scrambles RG3 only ran 8% of the time. That to me is not a run first QB.

Vick ran for 1k yards before, can't say it's over yet. These read option QB's will just get bigger and stronger and be able to take more hits.

I guess we'll agree on something, after all. Good chance that the Superbowl winning team this year will have a "running" QB IMO.
