thats fine cause IF he's going to say something in public, thats what he has to say. anyways, this doesn't impact the game.

btw - considering how much "ammo" he had, don't feel his body of work was THAT good? having Alex Smith revive himself helps a ton NOW, but still think he should've done a little better?

now Baalke has to work from the latter part of each round, so we have to adjust our draft expectations.

“They come to our place Christmas Eve,” McCloughan says laughing of the 11-3 Niners, “and we’re going to beat the hell out of ‘em."

Ex-Niners GM McCloughan seeing picks pay off - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

Michael Silver has admitted to being really good friends with McC before when he did an exclusive article on his firing. The article is completely bias. McC WAS and with HINDSIGHT was still a horrible GM that held the 49ers back!

Here's my full assessment of McC from a while back (Dec 27th, 2009)

For those who aren't aware, McCloughan was promoted from Vice President of Personel to GM on 1.02.2008

Which means that 2005 through 2007 there was a sharing of powers between Nolan and McCloughan for the GM position. I've looked around various credible sites and they say Nolan had the final decision when it came to drafting players.

Through Nolan's tenure as semi-GM he drafted players that are now the foundation of the 2009 49ers. Vernon Davis, Patrick Willis, Frank Gore, Parys Haralson, Joe Staley, Dashon Goldson, even Manny Lawson is coming along since he's been benched. Nolan saw a few of these players at the Senior Bowl, Nolan was HC if anyone remembers.

Since McCloughan's been hired as GM, his resume of notable draftees are Michael Crabtree and Josh Morgan.(Yes I understand we still have to give these players time)

Mike Nolan is also the one who brought Aubrayo Franklin over here from the Ravens.

McCloughan had 2 big signings this offseason, Marvel Smith and Brandon Jones.

Brandon Jones was suppose to be at least a #2 receiver here in SF. We let go of Bryant Johnson, who went to the Detroit Lions for a cheaper contract. Jones has exactly 1 reception on the year as of now.

Marvel Smith after 2 back surgeries was still thought to have some left in the tank. He's now retired.

It took only 2 months after McCloughan was promoted to GM to tamper with Briggs and forfeit one of our draft picks.

I question McCloughan's player evaluating skills, as he believes that Glen Coffee, who stands 6'0 - weights 209 lbs is an NFL power back. In recent news Jerry Rice has come out and said he mentored Desean Jackson before the 2008 draft and praised his receiving ability, yet the McCloughan passed up on Desean not only once but twice.

In my opinion McCloughan has gotten lucky twice with the Raiders drafting DHB and Carolina Panthers not making the playoffs this year.

moving up for guys like staley and lawson hurt imo. there was plenty of talent in later rounds to fill the same positions instead of wasting picks moving up. i still hate the vernon davis over ngata.

Moving up to the bottom half of the 1st round hurt us by getting our franchise LT in Joe Staley? Humor me.

This was the part of the article, from NFL.com, that I enjoyed.

McCloughan told Silver of a Sunday afternoon earlier this month when he sat in an Indianapolis sports bar, on a scouting trip, and witnessed 49ers running back Frank Gore break the team's all-time rushing record.

"I got up and walked away," he said. "Just to know that he did it, it was so cool. And that's all I wanted to see. The guy deserved it. He blew out both knees and both shoulders, and the son of a gun still goes to work. He represents everything I tried to build."

At first, I just enjoyed reading his pride in selecting Frank Gore. Hell, I'd hang my professional career "hat" on Frank too. That guy makes even the biggest drunk look like a genius... and then after I_am_1z's post, the location of where he got up and walked away from becomes even more hilarious.

Nicely played I_am_1z

jason peters or doug free were taken after the 1st. i think the only time we've done a good job moving up was for andre carter. we ended up missing out on a bunch of talent in the 2nd round because of his moves.

yep, plus you haven't even added comp picks (one was a 3rd) and an extra 4th in a trade, was it for Barlow? you didn't even mention he was drafting in the high end of each round very year?

now he did make the trade that got us an extra #17 of round 1 (Iuapti).

since i associate McCloughan WITH Nolan, i feel he was the main talent evaluator since 2005. as such, i said "not up to par" which isn't nearly as bad as "horrible". but boy did "not up to par" irk some fans here??!!

Alex Smith's revival makes a BIG difference NOW, had he remained 'bad', McCloughan looks even worse.
