If an extension would work that would be great! If he leaves for another team and who could blame him Brady will be 37 / 38? Lets say we draft a kid now what, we are left training him in hopes that Tom can make it to 40. I can not see the Pats getting a first for Mallett, out of the question, and I can't see the Pats taking a third that's where we got him. So that leaves us looking at a second round pick is it worht losing a guy that appears to have the NFL tools for a second rounder? I suspect this is a question BB and the team struggles with too. How long do we really think we can keep him on the bench? This is a tough call, the QB class is suppose to be solid next year so that will have a lot to do with it.
No we didn't. Because we didn't know squat about Tom then. Tom was shit luck and no one thought at the time he had the skills to be successful. At this poing with Mallett indications are he has the tools that was not the case with Tom.
That was the one year Bill kept 4 QB's. And even then Brady got the nod to take over for Bledsoe over 3 year man Bishop and 5 year backup Huard.
Bill knew something
Mallett is a very smart QB I don't care if you think he sounds like a Hill Billy he is smart on the field and can make most of the throws required. He is probably better then some or most of the current starting QBs in the league.
Im sorry but what exactly has Mallett done for you to think this?? Hell he hasnt even proven he is better than Tebow when it comes to actual wins/losses.
He hasn't needed to. As for stating how good he is, we don't know. But I would rather pay him, say, 5mil a year than dream of having Tebow be an injury away from coming in. Mallett has tools to work with, and there have been rumors of decent offers for him being turned down. There is a reason many think highly of him, plus the fact that he has been able to watch one of the best play in front of him? Tebow has no tools.
He is better than Tebow. How good he actually is I don't know.
Brady will be pushing the envelope over the next four years but father time catches up to them all. Here's what Tom recently said:
"All my thoughts on a daily basis go into how I can sustain the length of my career,” he told the magazine(Men's Health) in the issue that comes out Aug. 6. “What I eat. How I sleep. My levels of stress. Why? Because I love football."
Probably but all Im saying is Tebow was better in college and has actual results in the NFL when it comes to his team winning. Id take Mallett over Tebow all day too especially in the Pats system but saying Mallett is better than some or most current starters in the NFL is hyperbole at best and just plain homerism at worst. Only 2 QB's on your roster have won a playoff game and neither of them is named Ryan Mallett

I heard stories about several teams contacting the Patriots about Mallett before and during the draft so there were interested teams. His value is certainly better than a 3rd. Gotta wonder what teams were offering for the Patriots not to pull the trigger. Or the Patriots just like him enough to value him as a backup vs having a draft pick to spend on another unknown. Gotta believe there are a few desperate teams that would be willing to give a 2nd rounder at this point.
We won't trade him for a third rounder.
I think he has more value than you think he does. The only reason he fell out of the first round was some rumors about him before the draft. He has been a model citizen here and sat behind Tom Brady watching the master at work. There are teams that would love to get their hands on him.
The Browns will be happy to give up a 2nd rounder for Mallet sooner than later.
