KING: You turn 36 in August. Five years ago you said you wanted to play until you were 40. Now?

BRADY: The way I feel now, it’s beyond 40. I have a lot of goals, and I am in this for the long haul. I don’t see any light at the end of the tunnel. Whether the team wants me, or whether something [like an injury] happens tomorrow to stop me from playing, that remains to be seen. But my training, my nutrition, the bodywork I do—I can’t see not playing at any time in the near future. There’s nothing I love to do more. Whether the New England Patriots want me, or anyone wants me, I know I want to play for quite a while.

Injuries happen. I'm sure most people think they are Superman until the aging process kicks in along with freak injuries. Having a quality backup is very important when having a 36 year old QB. Mallett's trade value probably isn't even a 2nd rounder so why bother?

A quality backup QB is worth as much as a starter at half the positions. Yes, they'll look to deal him after this year if they can, but right now, not unless its for a clear upgrade to a starting player at a needy position.

He'll play until at least 40 and probably close to the level as he is now. Maybe past 40 who knows.

What do you deal him for? It's not like he has any value at this point, he hasn't played.

I don't trade mallett for less than a top half of the first round pick, or like draw said a significant upgrade at starter somewhere, and i don't see either happening. Backup QB is far too valuable to leave in the hands of tebow or someone off the street unless we get significantly compensated for doing so, and we aren't a needy team with too many holes to fill to afford that luxury.

He doesn't need to have played to have value. He doesn't have quite the value it would take for me to give him up, but he has plenty enough for QB needy teams to want him.

After this season, I'd seriously consider taking anything round 2 and up, since he's not re-signing after next year. Right now, I'd consider packaging him with a pick for a Larry Fitzgerald, which there's of course absolutely no chance of happening, and other deals that nobody would ever do, but not less than that.

If they are going to trade him this year, it would be after preseason. If he has a good showing it could increase his value.

They aren't going to trade him this year. They might trade him next year.

Round 2 and up? You really think a team would give a top pick for Mallet? I highly doubt a team would give any higher then a 3rd rounder for him. Probably even lower then that.

I think we could fairly easily move him for a second rounder right now if we wanted to.

I would not want them to trade Mallett at all just because Tom wants to play at 40+ does not mean he can or that his skills won't diminish. And the thought of Brady going down does not scare me as much with Mallett on the sidelines as it would if Tebow were on the sidelines.
