NJ Advance Media's Connor Hughes believes "odds are" the Jets will end up trading DE Sheldon Richardson on draft weekend.
There's been a ton of chatter about a Richardson trade, but no teams have been connected to him since last year's trade deadline when the Cowboys and Broncos were sniffing around. Both clubs still make a ton of sense as landing spots, with the Bengals and Chiefs also possible fits. Problem is Richardson's $8M salary thats guaranteed and the fact that he is in the last year of his deal. Combined with what the Jets would want for him (likely a 3rd at minimum). We have the draft pick to give, but we dont have the cap space unless we get Kirk Signed long term and still do a little creative cap work in some other areas.

True on all accounts Shark but it is manageable as you well know. Possibly cut or re-work a few deals or extend his current contract to a 2 or 3 year deal prior to the trade. Richardson is well worth a 3rd rounder imo.

Yeah we actually discussed this even before our FA defensive ends were signed. The majority seemed to pass -- I think possibly not being able to lock him in long term was the deal breaker. Good idea though!

I know we don't like speaking in terms of "needs" however, this would allow us to focus on ILB, CB & S early in the draft.

Now talk is a 4th rounder may entice the Jets to move Richardson. We have several 1 year deals so why not one more for a 4th?

For a 4th I would consider it, but again we would have to do some cap gymnastics to make it work... and it would only be a one year deal at that point.

its too late. This idea was exhausted many times over. The majority concluded he wasn't worth it.
I was one of the few who wasn't happy about it, but accepted it and moved on. The 2 DE's we did sign killed any percentage left of that happening.

I would offer a 7th,just to get in the bidding. If he makes his 100 million. The following season, we get a third.
