In your opinion:
Barring a year when all p5 champs are undefeated, *should* an undefeated p5 champ ever be looked over for a cfp spot?

If Memphis, Temple or Houston wins out, their SOS would be good enough to be equal to and/or better than Ohio State, Iowa, Baylor, and Oklahoma State's schedules. I wouldn't rule it out if any of these teams run the table. The Amerian conference is pretty strong this year. It's not elite strong, but there are 3 teams that are playing great football right now and all have solid wins. Houston can notch another P5 win against Vandy this week. That will be a tough game. Temple will have their hands full with Notre Dame, but anything is possible. Memphis already has wins over BYU, Cincinnati, Bowling Green and Ole Miss, who are all solid and/or good to great teams. None of those teams have bad losses.

Only if the committee doesn't think that they are one of the top four teams.

Thanks for not adding anything at all. Anyone who isn't a complete chowder head want to add anything of substance?

Yes, SoS has to mean something.

But it's going to require a large gap before it ever happens.

Would you have left Baylor out last year if they went undefeated? Or even a bigger gap?

Among P5's if the choice is between a 1 loss conference champ and an undefeated conference champ, I would say no, you can't leave out the undefeated team. It would render the regular season meaningless.

If it is a choice between a 1 loss P5 conference champ and an undefeated non-P5, the gap in SOS would have to be enormous to take the non-P5.

Sorry, it never occurred to me that this was a serious thread.

I don't know because Ohio St didn't have a great SoS either, but they had that last game that bumped it up enough and then also won convincingly.

So maybe not, but I wouldn't have been happy.
