Kenyon Martin, Kimo VonOelhoffen, Johnny Cueto:::: and the hits just keep on coming.

Actually, I'd rather have Latos pitching this game than Cueto. But the long term for the next series without Cueto is going to be hard to overcome, even if they win today.

They do not match up well with the Cardinals in any regard. Especially with the way the Cards are swinging the bats.

The Cards are gonna wrap up that series today too.

If they reds lose at least they'll go down swinging. The Nats shutting Strausberg down was just dumb.

I disagree. Strasburg's never pitched a full season in the bigs, or even close to it. You could tell he was wearing down as the season went on. His future is too bright to risk it. And he's definitely not the reason why the Nats are down 2-1 in the series.

You don't think the pitching was the problem yesterday or game 2? 12 runs and 8 runs? It was definitely dumb. They could have limited him near the end of the season, game him some rest and had him for the playoffs. It's no guarantee they ever make it back. You try to win it while you can.

Or do it like the Braves did with their guy. Start him a little later into the season, so that by the playoffs, you're just hitting your stride. The Nats were good enough to make the playoffs without him pitching the first 2 months of the season. In my mind, you play to make the playoffs, leaving him out now just makes no sense to me.

Pitching and hitting is the problem lol. Even the bullpen is pitching terribly. I think people are overrating Strasburg this year. The Nats were 7-7 in his last 14 starts and his ERA was up near 4. There's no doubt in my mind the Cardinals would have hit him hard too.

Exactly. Who says the Nats will ever make it back again? Was it really worth the chance at a WS to have him pitch from now on if you don't get back to this point? Teams rise and fall every year in baseball. Especially small market teams. It was a horrible decision.

You put your best players out there regardless. He is a big boy and is being paid as such.

The Nats did the same thing with Jordan Zimmermann last year. Shut him down after 160 IP. He came back this year stronger than ever. It's just somethin the Nats GM does.

There is also no evidence that shutting him down has any benefit aside from basically guaranteeing that he doesnt damage his arm this year. With the Reds, it was clear Chapman's arm was getting fatigued...they sat him down for a while and he regained his velocity/action and did not blow out his elbow.

If you'd of told me this morning that the Reds would put up 4 runs I would've taken it...Latos choked big time. Seems like whenever he gets focused on the umps and the strikezone he loses focus and gets tattooed. Can't say I'm suprised. I had a bad feeling after game 3.

We had runners in scoring position in the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th if I remember correctly. Hitting with RISP really effed us earlier in the season, and it did again today.

Looking forward though, we still have a very young team and most of the guys should be back last year. Getting Roland out and Frazier in all season should help offensively (and defensively) and Ludwick in left is the first time I have actually felt decent about a Reds left fielder in a long time.
If Stubbs can learn how to get on base and if we get Madson back and can close, I'm sure we'll continue to flirt with the idea of Aroldis in the rotation. A rotation of Cueto, Latos, Arroyo, Bailey, and Chapman could easily be among, if not the best in baseball.

I have high hopes for next season. Just sucks we couldn't get it done this year.

You nailed it. He didn't get a called third strike to open the 5th and couldn't get his head in it after..... The book on him has been that he is immature. Unfortunately that showed up today.

Tough series. If I told you going into the series that we would get gems out of Bronson and Homer, you would have predicted that we would win in 3 or 4.

Dusty starting the runners in the 6th with no outs was epically stupid, as was Hannigan's decision not to swing at a close pitch.

I have no problem with Dusty starting the runners there. Hannigan is a contact hitter who doesn't strike out often, but is highly likely to ground into a double play. He knows the hit and run is on, then takes strike three. Hannigan's fault. Not Dusty's.:frusty:

Latos let his temper get the better of him again. I thought he had grown out of that, but I guess the pressure was just a little too much for him this time.

It's always something. It's damned hard being a Cincy sports fan. Rooting for Cincy teams is like going to a strip club. You always get teased, and never pleased.
