I'm sorry. Has Chapman never blown a save? What about Mariano Rivera? Trevor Hoffman? Dennis Eckersly? No....oh ok, I didn't know all other late game pitchers had never blown a lead. I'm sorry.

They have, but those guys are all closers one would consider dominant. Broxton doesn't even belong in the same sentence as any of those guys. You were all about not needing a dominant closer and we sure as hell could have used one today.

If 90% of your posts weren't complete bullshit that always turn out to be wrong, I wouldn't be able to troll so easily.

Lol rrriiiigggghhhhtttt. Keep em comin troll. The only time you post on this board is in response to me. Why don't you go back to your Hokie board? You never actually post about the Bengals or the Reds. Or better yet, go to the Giants board. They have your idol.

Well it's not the season, so no, I don't post in a lot of the bengals threads, as all of them are pretty much the same or not interesting. I currently have 39 posts in the Reds thread on the actual Reds board, and I have NO idea who you are referring to in your last point.

But in all seriousness, there really isn't anyone else on hoop I can think of that is so stubborn with all of their posts and opinions and yet gets proven wrong so quickly. You can be mad if you want, but your track record speaks for itself. :sorry:

Would we have won yesterday if Chappy would have pitched the 9th?

Lol at Tubbs being Tubbs.

His 'great closer addition' really came through today :burt:

maybe you care to talk more about how having a dominant closer doesn't matter?

Statistically speaking the overall save rate today is where it was back in the 70's and 80's before "closers" became a specialty position.

Overall, I believe that any team can get a decent pitcher to get the last 3 outs of the game and convert around the MLB norm for the season. Having a dominant pitcher to close out games is not a "need".

However, if you HAVE that guy, then you are going to save above the normal save rate, which is always going to lead to more potential wins.

I think having one dominant guy is nice, but I would not go so far as to say that it is a absolute "must".

I wouldn't say it's a 'must' either, and for what it's worth, I would like to see Chapman get a shot in the rotation next year. However, this year he's in the bullpen, so to not use him (a dominant closer) just for the sake of not using him, as we had lost 2 straight to a division foe, and it was a 1 run game, is silly managing.
I was more just noting that there was a 2-3 page discussion on how great Broxton was going to be as a closer and how you don't need a dominant guy, bullpen wont miss a beat, etc. It only took one appearance for that to come back and bite us in the ass.

Well, it was the 8th, not the 9th that he blew the save, so Chapman was in line to close the game out still.

Broxton had 2 (maybe 3?) apperances with no issues prior to the blown lead yesterday.

Broxton pitching the 8th was the correct move. really, it was just a bullshit, tough luck outing. He had an infield single on a ball that the guy barely hit. Throwing error by the catcher gets the runner to third. A base hit so softly hit over the shortstops head that it had to be off the end of the bat. Stolen base. Bloop single. Ball game.

Lol I didn't watch the game to see it wasn't the 9th. Your argument is moronic. Never once did I say don't use Chapman this year, so I'm not sure where you are coming from with that one, and it wasn't even the 9th so bringing Chapman in wasn't even in the cards. Lol. Wow.

Lord, it was the 8th fucking inning, not the ninth. If he had gotten through the eighth, and he was unlucky not to, they would have turned the ninth over to Chapman. He was 23-27 in save opportunities as the closer for Kansas City, which is similar to Chappie's rate here. I'm happy to have Broxton here. No his stuff doesn't compare to Chappie's at this point of his career, but he's still the best option out of the bullpen to set up. What was incredibly dumb was that they chose to pitch to Braun with first base open and the game on the line.

Looks like Joey Votto let the Bengal training staff handle his injury. For a minor scope, it sure seems like he has had some serious complications.

Another 7-10 days after the cartilage cleanup. Didn't they see it there on the original surgery? Isn't this Kremchek guy supposed to be a genius? Is Hobspin writing for the Reds now?
