Yeah, a game they should have won. On the base hit that LeCure gave up to CF, I really thought that should have been a double play ball, but they had pulled Cozart closer to the hole than normal DP depth. Cost them right there. If he's normal DP position, then they are out of the inning with the lead.

Oh well. Stuff happens, but what's really disturbing is this 'pen has not been good, as of late, overall. Outside of Chapman and Simon, everyone else seems like they are really struggling to get through innings without giving up walks/runs.

I just hope the pens not letting up cause of Broxton and Chapman being the key guys, everyone needs to pitch their ass off like its the playoffs already! This weekend we'll say alot about our guys and this team as a whole.

Tough pitching matchups for the weekend series with the Cardinals. We have Leake going on Saturday and Bailey going on Sunday. I don't trust either guy right now. We need to win tonight.

I'd be satisfied with 1 win and a 6 game lead over the Birds going into next week.

I would like to think Latos and Bailey can give us two out of three! Bailey has been trying to work some kinks out here lately,i hope he's got it worked out.

Yeah, really not much to bitch about with the bullpen. I think they did need rest. I'd also say that even though Broxton has given up some runs I still have a lot of confidence in him as the setup man. I think he's had some tough luck lately.

Totally agree about Broxton.....lots of seeing eye broken bat grounders getting through right now.....hasn't given up a homer yet, not walked many....he'll be fine....Ondrusek, on the other hand, should stay in the minors in favor of Hoover, who really pitched a gutty couple of innings last night.....

Let's win tonight and hope to split the last two of the series.....Bailey showed positive signs his last start, and we don't have to face Lohse, who has been either one of their best or luckiest pitchers (not sure which).....

Chapman has given up some really cheap hits lately too...broken bat singles, infield base hits...coincidentally probably the hardest ball hit off of him (Howard) was hit straight at Heisey.

Batters are trying to adjust to Chapman by taking really short swings. They have been making more contact lately, but not much solid contact. I believe he should adjust back by mixing in a few more sliders. Once you throw one slider to a hitter who has to sit on that 100 mph gas, he's helpless.

This is a very resilient team. They showed it again today, with a very complete team performance with hitting, pitching and great defense. Leake had good control and location which allowed him to spread a bunch of hits out without getting severely damaged, and Broxton was overpowering in the eighth. JJ Hoover was once again very impressive, and I think he can help the back of the bullpen NOW.

Great bounce back game. Two tough losses (both should have been wins) can be deflating. They really came out and swing the bats for 9 innings. Impressive.

Let's win tomorrow and put the division on ice.

Tomorrow will be a tough game, Wainwright is on a roll lately. But yes, I think the dirty birds are done if we win tomorrow, at least as far as the division goes. No matter what, this team is not going to be denied the division championship, and given good health is well set up to make a playoff run. Hope Bailey pitches well, and we can put a knife into their black hearts.

Sweep of the snakes while the dirty birds suffer back to back shutouts at the hands of the Pirates....now the dirty birds must go to Washington and face their great pitching while we get the Lastros.....suffice it to say, it's over(the divisional race, that is)....doubt the dirty birds can make the playoffs at all this year.....

I think the Cardinals will get one of the two wildcard spots -- They'll earn the right for the play-in game (stupid idea btw)..... I just don't trust the Pirates to get that last spot.

Cards are getting the Nats at the right time..... Nats are finally in their own slump.

Let's get healthy/stay healthy for the postseason!

I think the Braves and the loser of the West will be the two wildcards.....I would just love to have the chance to knock the dirty birds out of the playoffs in that season ending series in front of their home fans......

STL took a huge blow. Furcal has an elbow injury and they believe it is the UCL (tommy john). He's done for the year. That is a big blow to them.
