The only thing that actually could level the playing field is a hard salary cap.

Um, no. Last 10 WS winners...

Boston, SanFran, STL, SanFran, NYY, Philly, Boston, STL, Chicago, Boston

You are correct, but when you said "chance" I thought you were talking playoffs...

but the deeper pockets win because they can still field teams by throwing money out the window, where small teams don't have that luxury.

However, if you draft, develop, and are smart, then you can be consistenly in the playoffs, and once you have a series, anything can happen.

Salary cap will never happen. The only way you can curtail spending is to start adding the loss of draft picks or ability to sign certain tier F/A's, which also won't happen.

I see Castellini is doing his best Mike Brown impression now.

Fuck him too.

Chapman is gonna be out a while, I'm guessing.

That was a shot, but thankfully it looks like he should be fine after the fracture heals. Just above the left eye, so no actual facial issues. Should heal quickly, and the rest will be about how he responds mentally.

I assume he's going to miss half the season at a minimum.

That was close. He'll probably need a lot of time to recover mentally. Who knows if he'll ever be the same again?

I'm not certain he was all there mentally to begin with. Maybe this will be an improvement.

I'm having a hard time finding motivation to root for this team -- I'm sure I'll start when they start playing for real, but this has been a lousy offseason.

I'm just depressed. There is no hope. Kirkpatrick graduates. Latos, Bailey, Chapman, Broxton, Marshall, now Cueto injured.

Dalton still here. Life, as it is in Cincinnati, sucks.

Going to be a rough, rough 1st month. Even if they were 100% healthy.

STL, then on the road @Mets
Back to STL
Then Rays at home
Pirates at home
A break with 3 games against CHI
Then 3 @ Pirates
Then 3 @ Braves

Before ending the month with another dose of the Terrible Cubbies...

That is brutal. We play 4 playoff teams 6 of our 1st 8 series, and 2 of them are doubled up against STL and the Pirates.

If the Reds are not 10-17 after the month is over, I will be amazed.

And we're going to watch all year. It's like a car wreck, you can't turn your head away. As kman would say, a little alcohol can't hurt......
