Typical Boston Idiot:

Final sports blunder for Menino?

Updated: October 22, 2013, 2:13 PM ET
ESPNBoston.com

In what could be the final sports blunder of his administration, Boston Mayor Thomas Menino told reporters on Tuesday morning he hoped the Boston Red Sox would win "the World Series Cup."
It's presumed Menino was referencing the Commissioner's Trophy, which will be awarded to the winner of the upcoming World Series between the Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals. Over the summer, the Boston Bruins played for the Stanley Cup, the top prize in hockey.

Menino is currently serving his fifth, and final, term as mayor. Bostonians will choose a new mayor in next month's election (Menino is not running). Tuesday's pronouncement adds another sound bite for a sports blooper reel that covers all of Boston's professional teams.
Over the winter, Menino stumbled on a couple of names of prominent Patriots players in a conversation with the mayor of Baltimore in advance of the AFC Championship Game.
"We have Tom Brady here, we have Tom Brady here, we have Tom Brady here. He's been our point person all season long," Menino said. "And Stevan Ridley, he's been another great guy. And Wilcock."
He of course was referring to All-Pro defensive lineman Vince Wilfork. He also referenced tight end Rob Gronkowski as "Gonk."
That wasn't the first time Menino has stumbled when referencing Gronkowski. When discussing the Patriots' chances in the playoffs against the Broncos in 2012, Menino talked about Tom Brady's weapons "Grabowski" and "Wes Weckler" (Welker).
A few months later, the mayor stuck his foot in his mouth when discussing the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference finals against the Miami Heat.
"There's a lot of heart in this team, let me just tell you," Menino said, before adding, "KJ is great but Hondo is really the inspiration. Hondo drives that team."
KJ should have been KG, Kevin Garnett. And Hondo was Celtics legend John Havlicek's nickname. Menino was referring to Celtics guard Rajon Rondo there.
Menino's most infamous reference came in 2010, when dedicating a statue to Bruins legend Bobby Orr's "ionic" goal to win the 1970 Stanley Cup. In discussing some of the best moments in Boston sports, Menino said it was Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek who "split the uprights" to win the Patriots' first Super Bowl in 2002. He was of course referring to Adam Vinatieri.

tenac, you're a dumbass if you dont think the Cards win

that osprey's MO

You are also a Sox fan, so you cant comment on team success based on all those WS titles from the 20s (according to Osprey) but the 1946 and 1967 WS titles by the cards are as fresh as your catfish sandwich from lunch today

plus, its all about payroll, the 3rd highest payroll Red Sox have a huge advantage over that poor team in St. Louis with the 7th highest payroll

Like you know how he's going to play? Dunk your head back in the chawder.

Do you actually talk ball with any corroborating facts or is it just emoticons and 1 liners?

STL = :yahoo:

SeattleOsperys, please don't make it hard for me to root for the Cardinals.

You're already going against the grain of 99% of your fan base (allegedly).

Red Sox havent lost a World Series game in 27 years

And how's that pertinent today?

This will be 1946 and 1967 all over again, except it's in 6 this time. You won't face slop pitching like 2004, either. This is a whole new beast.

I don't care who you root for. Root for the BoSox, I don't care.

I expressed my views of the series and all the BoSox replies are 1 liners with no substance of
matchups.

No smack talk allowed? I figured you East Coast renegades would be game but it's pussycat
central on here.

I might if I knew you better, but I don't have smack until April (possibly 2015) and I don't give strangers the benefit of the doubt on message boards.

It's the 14th payroll and way lower if you remove Chris Carpenter's, Jaime Garcia, Furcal, the 40+ save closer in Motte. That's almost $30mm and reason we had 3 rookie starters this year. (Shelby Miller, Wacha and Kelly, along with a few others that were sent back to AAA)

Face the facts, STL is a bunch of rookies surrounded by a handful of veterans. Games 2 & 6, you'll face 3 pitchers that are 23 or younger. You're built on more vets and $$, opposite of STL.

C'mon, know your enemy a bit.

i have yet to insult the cards

i just think the Sox win in 6 games

Cards are a great team and franchise

Sox just have have that sumthin sumthin this year

and you have more than "a handful of veterans:

maybe you should know your own team a little better

I'll be here. I'm not some pussy cat that scurries away. On occasion you can head to the Hawks board.

This is smack talk but yes, I'm confident we win this series and am waiting for an analysis from a BoSox fan that you will win.

You definitely can't use the ALCS as corroborating support because you didn't look good at all. Fluke GS's, hitting vs a trash bullpen, poor Detroit D and baserunning and congrats, you took advantage of their play. You actually thought you played well? You had like 1 hit in the first 15 or so innings. :L

I respect you but don't fear you. STL in 6.
