Bills defense is finally playing like it should. Surprisingly fun team to watch this season. I might harmlessly root for them as the Rams try to figure out if they want to lose with Brady Quinn or David Carr.

I think my official prediction is Cardinals in 6. The Pirates series came down to whether we could hit HRs and we did so we barely got by them. The Dodgers series came down to baserunning and fielding and we definitely outplayed them there. The World Series is going to be about big innings. I don't buy that this will be a bunch of low scoring games. Wacha is going to win his first game because Im not sure a team will be able to hit him the first time they see him. Wainwright and Lester probably split 2. Lynn's flaw is giving up big innings so he might lose a game. Kelly is probably a 50/50 prop.

I think I like the Cardinals in 6 while Wacha is still invincible.

This time it might just be you :noidea: I can see it okay.
Anyhow, it was a pic that shows who they think has the advantage in each position.

SP: Red Sox
C: Molina
1B: Napoli
2B: Pedroia
3B: Freese
SS: Drew
LF: Holliday
CF: Ellsbury
RF: Beltran
DH: Ortiz
CL: Uehara
No mention of BP.

I disagree with your outcome, but it is a reasonable statement.

It is funny that you talk about baserunning and defense as your keys to the Dodger series. These are aspects in which the Sox excel, and the Cardinals do not. The power edge goes to the Sox as well. I would rate the bullpens about even, with maybe a slight edge to the Sox, and the rotation advantage to the Cards slightly because of Wainwright. He is less prone to a blowup than any pitcher in the Sox rotation.

The Sox are going to beat Wacha. He hasn't faced a lineup this deep and willing to work the count.

The Sox won a series of attrition with the Tigers. The Sox scored enough off of their starters, but made them work and accumulate high pitch counts and get them out of the game sooner.

I think it could be seen as advantage Boston. The Sox go deeper with quality starters. The Cardinals have Wainwright, who is the best of all. Lynn and Kelly are nothing special and not better than any of Lackey, Buchholz, or Peavy.

Wacha is the wildcard. He has talent, but the pressure of the WS on the road and the Sox lineup are different than anyhting he has faced.

Peavy was terrible, Buccholz is good until he tires then implodes

I have much confidence in Lackey

I just think, overall, i'd favor the Cards starters, as a whole

Dodgers fire bench coach Trey Hillman

7410.jpg

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Dodgers have fired bench coach Trey Hillman.

The Dodgers also fired advance scout Wade Taylor. Both are close to Dodgers manager Don Mattingly, who indicated Monday that he's not sure whether he will be back next season even though his option for 2014 has already vested. The drama continues.

He was terrible against Detroit. Pretty good against Tampa. He just needs to attack hitters and not pitch like he's afraid. I would still take him over Lynn or Kelly.

Managing Buchholz is a key. In both games against the Tigers, he seemed good for about 75 pitches. The tell-tale sign for me was when his curve was way up in the zone.

I am not disagreeing about the rotations. I am just saying that I could understand why someone would give the advantage to the Sox. For me, it comes down to Wainwright.

The Sox finish off the Tigers in dramatic fashion and the Cardinals finish the Dodgers in a blowout.

Some will say the Sox are in trouble as the Cards will have Wainwright in Game 1 and Wacha in Game 2, but can it really get any harder for the Sox?

They won 4 games from the Tigers by winning 2 games started by the probable 2013 Cy Young winner (Scherzer), 1 game versus the 2011 Cy Young winner (Verlander), and 1 game versus the 2013 AL ERA leader (Sanchez).

They were shut out and held hitless for large portions of the series, but still found ways to win 4 games.

This Red Sox team is very reminiscent of the 2004 team because of their never say die attitude and ability to come back.

The BoSox hit 2 anomoly grand slam hr's to win 2 games against a crap bullpen, shoddy D that Victorino wouldn't have even been up to bat. Detroit had poor baserunning and what is Leyland doing pitching a righty against Ortiz with a lefty in the bullpen that had given up only 2 hits in 18 at bats to David?

No wonder Leyland retired. He lost it. BoSox have a scrappy squad but missing the bat of Napoli in STL will have a negative impact. I'm not a big fan of the bottom of your order to begin with and you have to lose Napoli?

Both teams are similarly built but STL won't give you games like Detroit handed you and you're not popping late game slammers to win games.

We also faced better pitching in LA than we'll face vs BoSox and we get Allen Craig back, arguably our best hitter, and the most clutch RBI hitter in the Majors at .455 with RISP.

These birds will be chirpin' all week and will take it in 6 games back in Boston with Wacha building the casket and Rosenthal hammering in the final nail.

It's going to be extremely entertaining and even non-fans should be glued to the TV. If you like traditional fundamental baseball, it will be on display starting tomorrow night.
