Perez is a pleasant surprise but remember the main thing we were looking for was for him to eat innings to help our young staff.
As I wonder what is going on with Howard

Why not look at entire minor league careers and compare them, he practically did more damage by himself than those 2 put together... :rolleyes2:
That still doesn't mean that those two will hit .200 when they come up. Joey did a lot more damage than a lot of guys in the minors. Him hitting .200 some years in the majors doesn't mean that everyone who didn't do as much damage as he did in the minors will hit .200 in the majors.

And I am not saying those two will ever amount to anything in the big leagues. I am just saying I have nothing wrong with their lack of walks when their average and OPS is as good as it is.

I think Bubbas swing and miss and no walks makes me think he is not selective and does not recognize pitches other than FBs. Just a conjecture. But his speed in the bases and defense and legit power is a plus.
So perhaps he is a 4th OF. There is a need. An upgrade over White

We once had a kid walk just 12 times in 408 AB in the minors. He turned out to be a HOF catcher for us. Vlad didn't walk a whole lot in the minors either. Walk totals in the minors aren't always indicative of how a player will hit in the majors.

Keith Law has his Top 100 Draft Prospect list out. He has this to say about the listing.

"This is not a prediction of where players will go in the draft. It’s a ranking. It’s not a prediction. Did you catch that part? It’s not a prediction. Or a mock. I’ll do one of those soon. This is just a ranking, and considers only the players’ abilities, projections and ages, but not where they might be drafted or their possible signability. There are a number of players on here who I expect will go to college, and will either be drafted late or not drafted at all."

"There’s a clear No. 1 prospect in this class, followed by the next six hitters, with no pitchers in the top 10, something I expect to see mirrored in the actual selections when the draft takes place. I’d put another line after the 21st player, separating the definite first-round talents from the maybes."

A reminder from Jeff Wilson.

The prescription for all those who wanted to tear down the Texas Rangers after their 2-9 start was patience.

It was too early in the season to do anything crazy. Things were always going to get better.

They have, with the Rangers going 8-5 since.

Guess what? The prescription is still patience.

It's still too early to start planning the ticker-tape parade. Things aren't always going to be this good.

But the Rangers have won four straight games and have been playing much better.

Their record is 10-14. Five American League teams have worse records, though Oakland and Boston are 10-15. Still worse.

However, nine teams have better records.

This might be where the Rangers reside all season. They might be a tad better or worse.

Yes, it's still early, but this is better than than where things stood two weeks ago.

just goes to show how little we know.. none of us were excited about bringing Perez back. Now he's on a run among the best in franchise history. Rangers might be getting some calls in a few weeks.
Really do no think anyone was EXCITED. Never considered him to be a leader of pitchers. Even Hoop minds can waver a little. Give the man a hand.

I wouldn't be opposed to keeping him around through 2023.

Hard to say, because I am not sure how long it will take the Rangers to give up on him starting and how that whole process affects him.

I still think he has the chance to make a really good late innings reliever at some point.
Yeah a chance is a chance. He has pretty good velo and maybe he could raise that. Just thought with his pitch mix if he could be left alone in AAA then maybe he found some continuity. Easily could be head issue. Maybe he can work though that. So likely a long shot but there is a chance.
Glad he is in AAA and for a bit. No hurry
