And thus should end the great Spencer Howard experiment. The trade was a failure. It is time to move on. We just make matters worse if he has a roster spot going into the Rule 5 draft. If they really want Howard, they could probably release him and sign him to a minor league deal.

Catching coordinator Bobby Wilson has been pleased with how well Sam Huff has been catching since returning from Round Rock. There are teachable moments and Huff gets a steady dose of reinforcement, but he’s a better catcher than he was earlier in the season. Wilson came up with the Angels and remembers manager Mike Scioscia carrying three catchers on the roster. It’s possible the Rangers could carry Jonah Heim, Mitch Garver and either Huff or Meibrys Viloria or a Kevin Plawecki-type veteran next season.

Kyle Cody got in 2 scoreless innings in the final game of the year for our system. He gave up 3 hiys and struck out 2. He finishes up AAA with a 3.60 ERA.
