A farm system playing in the farm won't win you a World Series. You have a good farm for a reason. Every good teams take chances. Look at the Red Sox and Yanks. They take risks because they in win now mode. They are a good organization and will continue to bring in talent over the years. I'm not worried about the farm when it was clear they made a good trade to get a damn good pitcher.

you got it, do you grow a farm to keep everything?
hell no.

That's the whole point of a great farm, we've got plenty of room without those players

Bravo JD, Bravo!!

The Rangers weren't willing to give up Olt for Grienke this past season, but now will for Garza, a clearly inferior pitcher to Grienke. Has Olt really regressed that much? Just trying to wrap my head around this one.

They didn't give him up because they were going to make a legitimate run for him in the off season. Thank God he didn't sign for that money in Texas because LA gave him a stupid contract which he can even opt out in the middle which Texas was not going to balk on.

BTW Garza is NOT inferior to Greinke. Not one bit. Seriously?

yeah, he lost a lot of value how he played after the call ups last season and how he started this on in the minors. What sucks is he was starting to find his stride and probably would have been more valuable in say a month or two... but the deadline is in a week so...

60 at the most, but only on a five year deal. plus, he'll be 30 when 2014 rolls around. the rangers wont and SHOULDNT offer him more than 60 mill

Anibal Sanchez got 5/80 and Garza is his caliber if not better. The Rangers should offer him a great contract because he is worth it. Texas is not a small market team they can afford it if they want.

Greinke in 2012: 6-2, 3.53 ERA, 1.187 WHIP, 1.1 HR/9, 7.9 SO/9, 3.00 SO/BB
Garza this year: 6-1, 3.17 ERA, 1.141 WHIP, 1.0 HR/9, 7.9 SO/9, 3.10 SO/BB

Garza clearly inferior to Greinke? Nope.

And don't forget he was the 2008 ALCS MVP and a proven stud pitcher in the post season.

I think Olt's value has decreased a little, and he's blocked. Beltre isn't showing any signs of any major slow down
or putting it another way, do you let Olt sit in AAA fearing Beltre get's hurt?

Nearly every trade involves some risk, you still have a decent shot at winning a division, and one of the best farms, this is the way you use it.
imo

maybe if he was 27, like sanchez, then i could see that. but not when he turns 30 before the start of next season. especially with minor elbow issues. i could stretch and see 4 for 60 mill. but not much beyond that. and yes, i do think he's better than sanchez also.

Anybody intersted in Alfonso Soriano? He would move Murphy out of the starting spot tho I don't know his contract situation and what he would cost.
